Former UT QB Casey Thompson transfers to Nebraska

Former Texas QB Casey Thompson transfers in the portal to Nebraska. He had a TD/INT ratio last year of 24/9, with 2,113 yards of passing, so he seems like a big step up from Adrian Martinez, who was great at times, and a hot mess at others.

Still, with the tire fire that is Nebraska, with all new coordinators, position coaches, and lots of transfers, I doubt this will save Scott Frost's job, which is bad news for Scott's mom.

Ehhh, they have crossovers with Rutgers and IU and only four road games.  You are correct that they lost a lot of guys on defense but it's not a very tough schedule.

I'd say 6 is the median outcome with a chance for 7 or even 8 if they can beat Purdue and/or Minnesota at home (plus all the games they'll likely be favored in).

And they could certainly win just 4 or 5 if they don't beat NW or Illinois/Rutgers.

Is it a step up? Casey Thompson had the benefit of playing with players like Bijan Robinson and Xavier Worthy. Adrian Martinez had to be everything for Nebraska. It's possible Thompson outperforms Martinez, but he will be stepping into a role much different than QB at Texas.

You do realize Casey Thompson is older than Adrian Martinez and about to turn 24 this year? They both signed in the Class of 2018. He might have one more year of eligibility than Martinez, but again I'm not sure it is a good thing to be a 23-year old sophomore who just got his first chance to play this year.

It might work out, but Thompson is going to have to carry a much bigger load at Nebraska than he was asked to do at Texas.

In a four team trade, Adrian Martinez goes from Nebraska to Kansas State, Casey Thompson goes from Texas to Nebraska, Quinn Ewers goes from Ohio State to Texas, and Ohio State gets salary relief.

The obsession this board has with Scott Frost’s mom is too much. It does not have to enter every conversation about Nebraska.

I'm a UT grad alum, so I caught a few games this year. If there's one key difference I noticed between the QBs, Casey seemed to have more command and confidence leading the offense. Disclaimers apply for Big 12 defenses, but it always felt like he was progressing toward a 1st down.

We all know Scott is a great fit for that program and if they give him enough time, he will get them in contention for a B1G title. Doesn't change the fact that I don't like the guy...

O/U on the number of press conferences before Scott Frost throws Adrian Martinez under the bus for Nebraska's shitty record...2.5?

"Yeah, Casey can make all the throws. And with Casey, we can really get things done on offense without all the mental mistakes..." or some such.

I see 7-5 with a bowl game. Scott will be back in 2023. The Pitt OC will help out - Casey is pretty explosive and not the TO machine that Martinez was.
