Former OSU QB Dwayne Haskins died this morning
Hit by a car. Just 24yo. Just tragic.
RIP - way too young.
ESPN saying that Haskins may have run out of gas on the highway, and got clipped by a car when he stepped out.
Wouldn't surprise me. People don't pay attention when they're driving. My buddy is a state trooper and was investigating an accident on I94 yesterday. His lights were activated yet he was still hit by a semi. His Tahoe looks like a compact car. He is very lucky to still be alive.
It could be unrelated, but there’s a coincidently timed news report of a 24 year old pedestrian being struck and killed by a garbage truck:
FATAL CRASH: Dump truck hits and kills pedestrian, leaving westbound lanes of I-595 closed for investigation. See which roads FHP is guiding people to divert traffic to. https://t.co/UEtbWXiMVZ

I just hope Haskins wasn’t in pain.
It was him.
Wow, that's your buddy? I Saw that on the news yesterday. After seeing the condition of his vehicle, it's a wonder he didn't suffer grievous injuries or was killed. He's very lucky indeed.
Yea his cruiser was destroyed. Considering he drives a Tahoe that's saying something.
A lot of times, it's worse than not paying attention, a lot of people just automatically drive toward where they are looking and when they notice someone on the side of the road, they inadvertently actually drift toward them.
He's facing 2 felony charges so hopefully he never drives commercial again.
Sounds like he was a pedestrian not a driver. Horrible. So young. Makes you sick.
Tragic and transcends any rivalry.
Well said.
Truly horrible…and poor taste from Schefter tweeting that Haskins “struggled to catch on with Washington and Pittsburgh” in his tweet. What the heck….RIP Dwayne, a real tragedy.
Yup. Already have an Ohio state buddy trashing Michigan fans because of it.
I think that says more about his logic to jump to conclusions than it does about michigan fans. Some people should stare long and hard in the mirror before judging others
Sounds like need a new buddy if that is what he is using this for
Exactly. He doesn’t mention Michigan he misspoke! People are always looking for a reason for displaced anger. Like they need another reason, “buddy!”
have an Ohio state buddy
That's your first problem.
Looks like Schefter deleted the original tweet and created a new post that left out the "struggled to catch on" bit. Regardless, awful news. RIP.
Wonder how Schefter voted on the “edit button” poll?
Agreed. Dude came off the bench cold and fulfilled a childhood dream sequence by balling out against Michigan in 2017. Would have been a much more decent approach to go with “we first met him when . . .” as opposed to what he tweeted.
Tragic news.
Edit - supposed to be a response to fireupchips.
It was dumb to include the ‘struggled catching on’ bit, but honestly your buddy seems like an asshole. No reasonable person, Michigan fan or not, is going to be happy about this or use it as an opportunity to take shots at a rival. It’s just too sad
I believe the details regarding professional trajectory were relevant to share in the initial tweet, for context. I'd be interested to read more details about precisely where this happened, who was driving the car, how fast, what time, etc. Very tragic.
Definitely tragic no matter what, but I’m also interested in the details and whether poor judgement had anything to do with what happened.
Please just fuck off and then fuck off again.
As I said, tragic no matter what, but young guys, and even more so professional athletes, often view themselves as indestructible. Beyond that, Haskins had a track record of immaturity. I got similar reactions when I wondered about the death of the Marlins’ Jose Fernandez a few years ago.
Why speculate at all though? Seriously, what’s the point? A 24 year old is dead, and it’s like you’re looking for reasons to justify it or something. What’s wrong with you?
Why would anyone ever want to know the full story? All that matters is expressing on the internet how sad it is.
Do you ever stop for a second and wonder why nobody likes you or wants to have a positive interaction? I doubt you possess that degree of self-awareness, but just curious.
Are you really this stupid or is it just an act? You’re not ‘trying to find out the whole story’ you’re speculating and hoping for a salacious story or a reason to say it’s his fault. You can fuck right off
Pro tip, junior: no one ever cares what you say before “but”
You’re mistaking me for someone who’s looking for others to care.
Which is why you've posted several times to defend your shitty comment?
I very rarely downvote anyone. It's a pretty high bar. You've cleared it with room to spare.
Oh, I thought it was anything you "say" before "butt" or after "Junior".
yikes.
While we're on the subject of poor judgement, maybe you should just push away from the computer for a bit...
Mentioning the NFL teams he played for and the years would be appropriate to the story but making a demeaning comment about it is not.
Posting a tweet reporting someone's untimely death is not the time or place to editorialize on their work performance.
Schefty getting hate on multiple platforms for that tweet. Not a good look.
Schefty sucks anyways. I don't care where he went to school, Adam has always been an ass.
Even the main article on ESPN.com mentions the "two turbulent season" he spent in Washington before being picked up by the Steelers.
This is not the context that matters right now. Smh
If ESPN is going to report it, I’d expect there to be have sports context included in the story
April 10th, 2022 at 10:02 AM ^
Sports context is the teams he played for etc. Deprecating a 24 year olds accomplishments because he hadn't yet locked down a starter role is just ridiculous.
Every non-sports story about a sports person includes their sports info. It's always been this way, it's always been a little weird.
Looks like he deleted that tweet.
Was senseless for Shelter to write that. I imagine he deeply regrets it.
I was late on my board post. But awful news. Any young person who passes is too young.
Agreed; even though we all have our favorite team and favorite team to dislike, it's tragic when a young man or woman is killed or injured .....for any reason.
