A story of a small plucky car company that spent a lot of money. But I kid it looks awesome looking forward to it.
“This isn’t the first time that Ford Motor Company has gone to war. Go ahead, Carroll, go to war.”
“Thank you, sir.”
Best part of the trailer.
Okay, so Damon and Bale waving the green flag together at Indy makes a lot more sense now.
This movie looks fun.
Best looking car ever made.
I'm in.
Le Mans. One of the great events in the world. Yes please.
Sign me up.
This might actually get me back to the theatre....it's been years.
Might have to take the boys to this one.
Search on Amazon Prime "The Return". It's great documentary about Ford's return to Le Man a couple of years ago.
Cosigned on "The Return". I highly recommend watching "The 24 Hour War" first, though. Both are available on Prime.
Does anyone else find the big name actors distracting?
Seems as if this could have used some lesser known actors in some of the roles. Suspension of belief and all I suppose but it looks like they just rolled the actors out with no effort at all.
This is one of the things I really enjoy about Netflix shows and movies. For the most part there aren't big name stars and then the characters can just be who they're supposed to be instead of all the baggage that comes with a top name actor who's played many memorable characters.
When I was living in the UK (1989 thru 1995) they had a TV show that documented commercials that never made it to the air. Some were too silly to air, boring, shocking or insensitive.
My favorite was a Ford commercial. At the time Audi was using 'vorprung durch technik' as a strapline (still does I think). Ford sells a lot of cars in the UK.
Anyway, the commercial starts with Ford's manufacturing of military hardware during WW2 focusing on what Ford produced for the UK's war effort against the Germans.
It's all very patriotic and the end of the commercial is wrapped up with the narrator stating something like,
"If it wasn't for Ford's contribution to the war effort, maybe today we'd be saying 'vorsprung durch technik' instead"
Nothing like the exhaust note of a big 7Litre FE burbling back thru the "Bundle of Snakes" in a GT40. Just winning wasn't enough for Carroll sweeping first three spots was a display of what The Company called "Total Performance".
The GT40 was so badass dominant that sanctioning body legislated it out of racing. I dare say if the rules were the same as they were in 1966 they'd still be dominating LeMans.
It is still the perfect marriage of American Muscle and the purebred racing platform.
BTW they named it the GT40 because it was 40 inches high. Carroll Shelby knew how to get shit done.

Larry: "What's all this now?"
/30 seconds in
Larry: "Meh. I could take it or leave it."
/"Gimme Shelter" starts
Larry: "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!!"
If interested, I highly recommend "The 24 Hour War". It's a documentary of the events of this movie and is on Prime. They interview a number of people who were part of the original team as well as sons of Henry Ford II and Enzo Ferrari. Well done and lots of great stories.
Looks interesting but the casting is lame. Bale's accent is a joke and Matt Damon has exceeded the point of critical mass where he no longer gets absorbed in to the character. The viewer is always watching Matt Damon on screen. Similar to the Tom Cruise effect.
Steve McQueen did not need CGI to make Le Mans.
