First medals (I believe) for UM Olympians - Gold, Silver, and Bronze in swimming

It's been a weird Olympics so far without any crowd noise and a lot more use of social media to keep up with the events due to the time difference.

Anyway, I believe UM has their first two medal winners after the women's swimming finals over the weekend.

Rising senior Maggie MacNeil was the star for UM, winning two medals for Canada - a silver in the 4x100 freestyle relay Saturday and a Gold the next day in her signature event, the 100m butterfly.

UM was also represented in the 4x100 freestyle for the bronze medal-winning USA team. Alumna Catie DeLoof did not swim in the finals and physically take to the podium, but she swam in the heats to help get Team USA to the finals and, therefore, gets a bronze medal of her own.

It was awesome to watch Maggie MacNeil go beast mode in the final 50m and win an insanely close race where like almost the entire field finished within a split second range. I don't know much about swimming but it can be super exciting to watch.

Not in the top three but very impressive nonetheless, Former Wolverine Felix Auböck (Austria) and rising sophomore Jake Mitchell (USA) were in the men's 400-meter freestyle final and placed fourth and eighth, respectively.

Kudos to Michael Phelps and Mike Tirico for their excellent coverage so far.
