Fargo: The FX Series

I'm super excited for Fargo, one of my all time favortie movies and Billy Bob Thorton seems like a perfect fit for this roll.
The only bad thing is I have to go to work at 11 and won't get to watch it all live. At least I have DVR.
On a side note, is anyone else watching this Hillsborough 30 For 30 on ESPN? Truly riveting.

we were sold the same lies through our american press. Houligans, drunken fans. The whole tragedy was sickening. The truth was much different wasn't it.
The movie itself was fascinating as I've only ever read about the series of events through various web sites. But nothing laid out the sequence of events quite like this film.
There were a couple minor inaccuracies pertaining to recent events, one being the empty 96 seats were at the FA Cup at Wembley this weekend not at Anfield.
One thing I thought the film lacked was the passion that Liverpool fans have shown on these memorial days. I seriously don't know how their fans just don't burst out in tears everytime they sing You'll Never Walk Alone. This weekends YNWA was as loud and passionate as any I've ever heard. There was never any mention of the clubs lack of success since Hillsborough and how those events cast such a dark pall over the club for such a long, long time.
It also didn't mention that the sweet older women who wasn't allowed to hug her dead son, named Jones I think, passed away last spring just a few days after it was announced a new inquiry would be ordered.
I cannot imagine the pain those people have felt for 25 years, I'm not sure there is any kind of justice that can be found for them.

Was there any mention of who ordered/carried out the re-writing of all the police statements?
As the one bobbie said, last he heard, changing evidence is a crime.
Glad there are people determined to get the truth out.
I hadn't heard about it, but it looks interesting enough for me to tune in and check it out.
I have only seen a few promotional commercials so I think that FX was banking on word of mouth given the title. It's the reason I decided to start this thread.
Loved the movie, and definitely interested in what the series is like. I'll have to DVR this for sure.
I love ya, Margie.

Oooohhhh Margie
April 15th, 2014 at 10:47 PM ^
Paraphrasing, but I've always loved this scene...
-"Hey hun!"
-"What'd ya bring there Norm?"
-"I got us some ARRrby's"

He was just kind of funny looking.

Martin Freeman makes everything better. Looking forward to this series.
April 15th, 2014 at 10:08 PM ^
He is very good in Sherlock.
April 15th, 2014 at 10:09 PM ^
be replacing William H. Macey. Of all the characters, IMO, his was the most iconic.
Yah, Yah.
April 15th, 2014 at 11:27 PM ^
Ohh yah. But Buscemi nails it too, yah know.
I'm fucking hungry now you know.

Do people really talk like that in Minnesota/Dakotas?
April 15th, 2014 at 10:36 PM ^
As a South Dakota native, I can say that most people I have met from the Dakotas and Minnesota sound pretty 'normal', but especially as you move towards northwest MN and parts of ND, some people definitely do have the 'Fargo' accent, although certainly not as over the top as in the movie.
April 15th, 2014 at 10:47 PM ^
I've had truck drivers come through from northern MN and ND whom I've confused with Scandanavian immigrants, so thick was their accent. Last summer a husband and wife team came through that sounded like the Marg and Norm. Course I've also spoken to some that sounded as if they came from an indistinct part of the great lakes region.
April 16th, 2014 at 12:15 AM ^
Not really.
No. I'm a Minnesota native and people don't have that extreme of accents, but it is funny to see on TV. In the Twin Cities there really isn't much deviation from a standard Midwestern accent, and up north you start to hear it a bit but not terribly bad. The "aw shucks" attitude they portray is more on point though. Really liked this first episode.

Fill me in! I'm starting now...didn't DVR it...but from now on...it's being recorded.
I meant to DVR it yesterday...then, I had a few pops, or Oberon's.
April 15th, 2014 at 10:39 PM ^
I'm thankful it's re-airing right afterwards, I hadn't realized it premiered tonight. Thanks for the heads up!

FX has some really great series'...
SONS OF ANARCHY!
Justified.
Hopefully Fargo lives up to the hype.
'The Americans' didn't work for me tho.
Now to mention favorites like Always Sunny...
April 15th, 2014 at 10:53 PM ^
Don't forget The Shield.
April 15th, 2014 at 10:54 PM ^
WHAT!?
The Americans is fuggin' slick as shit. Great show. (I know I know, everyone is different, different tastes, takes on things)
April 15th, 2014 at 11:00 PM ^
I tried with The Americans. The first few episodes from S1 were alright...but after that it didn't keep me reeled in.
And shows like 'The Shield' and 'Law and Order' and 'CSI'...aren't my thing.
But when Cops is on...I'll grab me a bud light and get down.
Right now, I'm almost done with Breaking Bad...
Walking dead or Game of thrones next?
Or something else? Opinions?!
April 15th, 2014 at 11:18 PM ^
I can't believe that you just grouped The Shield with those shows.
I love the Walking Dead so you should watch that too but Game of Thrones is possibly the best series on television at the moment. I just started it about a month ago on Project free TV and I couldn't stop. I'm caught up to the live airings now and season 4 could be the best yet and it's only two episodes old.
April 16th, 2014 at 12:58 PM ^
Yep GoT and Walking Dead are great. I also am absolutely loving the first two episodes of Turn on AMC so far. Another good one that I just watched is the first season of Black Sails (on Starz). And Vikings (History Channel) is pretty awesome too if you haven't seen that yet.
I've heard some people say that The Black List is good. I liked the first few episodes but it got silly when every week they catch a new super-criminal/terrorist. I don't really like one hour self contained shows anymore. Instead I prefer the series format.
And yeah, Project Free TV is the best.
The Blacklist is Ok, nothing spectacular. For me, The best shows on Network are Person of Interest and Hannibal. Hannibal is my favorite show on TV, period, and that is coming from a huge Game of Thrones fan. This season of Hannibal has been incredible, and still a few episodes until it is done. Walking Dead is too up and down for me to include it in, but it is still a very good show. I enjoyed this Fargo a lot. It should be a great 10 episode story.

So many good shows, so little time... Just watch s3 ep2 of Veep. The comedic writing just gets better and better... very looking forward to Fargo. Will watch before catching up on Game of Thrones.
April 15th, 2014 at 10:55 PM ^
Yes please...
April 15th, 2014 at 11:07 PM ^
Wasn't expecting that...
April 15th, 2014 at 11:35 PM ^
Billy Bob Thornton was great.
April 15th, 2014 at 11:49 PM ^
I definitely give it a thumbs up. Obviously, it won't appeal to everyone, but if you liked the movie, this series definitely has a similar vibe and so far is just as good.
April 16th, 2014 at 12:48 AM ^
I loved the movie, but I was skeptical of the show. I might have to check it out. As for FX, who's pumped for the Archer finale??
Archer is the greatest show in the history of television.
Awesome. Is the finale an hour?
Good God, that was a great first show! Has anyone watched AMC's new series, Turn? I'm a History buff and very impressed so far.
April 16th, 2014 at 10:47 AM ^
I like a lot of AMC shows and also a bit of a History buff. So you like it? I read reviews but nobody in my personal life watches it so I can't get a good read on it.
April 16th, 2014 at 12:23 PM ^
I watched Breaking Bad and love Walking Dead. This show definitely has that AMC feel to it. The story of Americas first spy ring is very intriguing to me. They've also done a very good job, so far, of leaving you with that, edge of your seat fealing after every show. I'd recommend it.
If TV steals from movies now, who are movies going to rip off?
movies rip off older movies.
but movie remakes and ripoffs have been going on for 100+ years.
That the movie Spiderman 2 that is coming soon isn't really the second Spiderman movie ever made?
I am sure hollyweird will come here and rip off stuff we write about. A movie about a horrible offensive line is in the works from what an industry insider told me yesterday.
Yahh

I enjoyed "House of Cards". Kevin Spacey is great.
