Fact finding By Aubreys mom

Submitted by Losher on
This is an interesting read on what the mother r of former commit and this weekend official visitor Aubrey Solomons mom will be looking for from the coaches and answers she's hoping to get. It could be big for Michigan to get back in the good graces and snow the family that it's a school worth putting in the spread sheet. http://michigan.247sports.com/Bolt/Mother-of-elite-DT-has-31-question-i…

This sounds like a job for Momma Gwen and her magic list.

She was the one that came up with the idea of these checklists.

Why not go to the school - Michigan - that has the person that came up with the idea in the first place?

Is all that really needed to determine Michigan is by far superior academically to UGA and BAMA ? Come on. We so often see recruits or parents talk the importance of academics, but if that really is the case no SEC school (other than Vandy) is in play.

I don't think she's questioning the quality of the education. It seems like she's trying to find the school that has systems in place which will put her son in the best position to succeed off the field after his playing days at Michigan are over. I can't blame her for that.

If that is the question she is asking the answer is equally simple. Michigan gives the opportunity for the most success, but the SEC schools will assure that no matter how hard a player tries to fail out of school, or get in trouble with the law, they will still be ok.

So really the question is what kind of faith does she have in her son's academic motivation ? If she is confident then Michigan will be the choice.

This is why Rashan Gary is at Michigan and not Clemson. (Well that and he decided to take the high road when Clemson tried paying off his Uncle's house)

Balancing being a D1 athletic with being a full-time student is rough. I had a friend who walked-on to a D1 football program after graduating as my class's salutatorian. The amount of time he had to devote to two-a-day practices, hitting the weight room, film study on top of going to class nearly made him flunk out. His parents essentially had to have an intervention and convince him to give up a lifelong passion of his and re-focus on school. He had to take an extra year to graduate/boost his GPA, but he made it to medical school now. Now as a walk-on, my friend didn't really have the academic support system that scholarship athletes got, and that's probably what Aubrey'a mother wanted to know. How is Michigan going to help her son balance athletics and academics, or do they just push him into an easy major and tell him "good luck!"

do those 3 schools, uga, bama & m, appear to be the main contenders or finalists for solomon?  tough competition, especially when ones the hometown favorite, but obviously m checks some boxes the others do not (and vice versa, depending on what one seeks).

interesting that both uga and bama have been mostly 3-4 fronts of late (though i believe uga switched to more 4-3 this year) - could be a slight benefit if the kid prefers 4-3 base.

im sure solomon would make plays as 3-4 DE since hes an athletic dude but he appears to have the highest ceiling as 3 tech or 1 tech in 4-3.   id guess solomon envisions greater potential inside in a 4 down base but who knows.

all Ds aim to be as multiple as possible and all teams covet athletes capable of playing (and excelling at) several positions, particularly along the front - i just find it interesting to follow some of these recruitments when 4-3 and 3-4 teams target the same prospects yet envision fairly different roles (ie trent murphys bro last cycle).  may be a long shot after his decommitment but solomon would obviously be a huge add

Boy I like it.

Good questions. And ones that I think are favorable to Michigan.

Regardless of what school he selects, I'm glad his mom is looking out for him to that degree and wants him to get his degree.

I love the ideas they are conveying.  But for someone to put that much effort into creating a form like that and still mess up subject verb agreement ( is/are and do/does) is annoying.   Just my opinion though.  We gucci?
