Roku Express Sucks

I got DirecTV Now with a free fire stick that has worked great for a variety of services. I recently got a Roku Express as part of a Hulu promo and the Roku has been pretty bad. The interface lags and there are way more buffering issues when compared to using the same apps on the Fire Stick.

Do more 3/4 wide sets imply...

Do more 3/4 wide set necessarily imply a significant shift in the run/pass ratio?  I don't think that HAS to be the case and I doubt those sets become a staple in the offense without complementary constraint plays that don't allow teams to ignore the threat of the run from those personnel groupings and formations.  As a slight aside, I think this is where guys like McKeon, Eubanks & Gentry become really interesting and allow for a ton of pre-snap formation adjustments.

Still clearly less TE talent...

With no new incoming TEs, it's a tough argument that there's not a clear talent dropoff at the position losing Butt and Asiasi.  Even after taking into account the expected growth/development of Bunting, Wheatly et al, the wise approach would be to expect and prepare for less production from the TEs in the passing game.

Thanks for pulling this data together...

I really appreciate what you did here but I'm not sure I (or the data) agree with part of your conclusion.

"Against good defenses he did have a harder time but you can say that about literally every QB that has ever existed."

The work that you did to normalize Speight's performance to the typical QB performance against each defense appears to expose that Speight performed significantly worse against the good defenses he faced than his counterparts who faced the same teams last year.  If the deltas for the Iowa (-54) & FSU (-35) weren't so broad (side note: would be interesting to see standard deviation to provide additional context) it would be possible to shrug this data off to other environmental and team factors but I think Speight has to eat a good share of the blame here.  To be fair, the injury is definitely a valid point to make to explain Iowa and some of Ohio State but to my eye the issues that plagued him in those games were apparent all season.  They just hadn't cost the team in a meaningful way against lesser opponents and/or more favorable environments to that point.

Full disclosure tangent, I'm rooting for Peter's to win the QB job this year for reasons that I think you lay out clearly here.  IMO, Speight has not demonstrated the accuracy or consistency needed to make plays that beat playoff teams.  This doesn't mean Michigan can't beat playoff teams with Speight just that Speight won't be the guy that beats them if you see where I'm going here.  Peters appears to have that type of ability so if Peters is able to show the leadership and consistency to win the job the ceiling of this year's team raises accordingly.

Awesome work...thanks again for doing this!

Can we not do this.

nm

NO!!!

Just let Georgia have him.

More Harbaugh

I found this statement from Jim Harbaugh to be somewhat telling:
"I thought our special teams coaches did a nice job making that adjustment. They were mandated to make that adjustment, but yeah, feel great..."

The "mandated" part makes me think that coach maybe let Baxter have more autonomy due to his pedigree but is more hands on with more junior coaches running special teams now. Possibly more evidence of the Harbaugh effect.

How are we letting Dymonte...

How are we letting Dymonte get in these spots against Ross. They'll exploit that all day if Don lets them.

Also...how hurt is JD really???

McDoom 40...Jehu in the 100

Exactly what I came here to say...McDoom seems to get going more quickly based on watching them both run the fly sweep (part of why I think McDoom has taken those carries from Jehu) but I think the long stride "Bolt effect" comes into play over a longer distance.

::Meant to be a response to someone who said this earlier in the thread::

Northwestern

I'll take Northwestern if available. Thanks!

Northwestern & U of Chicago...

are private schools and therefore aren't pertinent to the conversation.  Recognizing that this is just a quick "sound bite" so I may be missing other things that were said, him referencing other Big Ten schools doesn't necessarily mean he's proposing or even cares that the new Illinois state school is a part of any given athletic conference.  I guess the other implication that he's making is that other in state Illinois schools like Northern Illinois aren't of the same quality as schools like Illinois, Michigan, etc.

The strangest part of this is why would kids with 34's on the ACT and the other credentials that tend to go with that type of score pay out of state tuition to go to Kansas or IU.  Just doesn't make any sense but maybe he was just rambling on somewhat thoughtlessly at that point.  Very curious.

EDIT: Meant to be a response to a post that brought up NU and U of Chicago.

GR3 = MVP

Game isn't over yet but he's been declared MVP...just missed two crucial free throws with his team up 1 so his squad could end up losing.

By this metric...

playing Marshall and FIU is equivalent to playing LSU and Alabama...you have to take total record, some form of ranking, etc into account to achieve any type of meaniful differentiation.

The "right" play

Exactly...you have to be very careful in critiquing a player (esp one as successful as Phil) because the plays may be perceived as wrong may be a profitable part of their game when taken in context with their overall strategy, image and approach to the game.  I respect that there there is a fairly standard book on how to play a lot of situations...but when evaluating players who deviate from that conventional wisdom you have to take into account their profitability over time with their non conventional play.  That's not to say that Phil and other very successful players don't/can't have leaks in their game that need to be plugged.  I just think he's earned a little bit more "benefit of the doubt" than he typically gets...in large part because of the arrogance he's displayed over the years.

I definitely understand where

I definitely understand where a lot of the criticism comes from.  He admittedly has a non conventional take on how to play relatively short stacks.

I would've thought that all

I would've thought that all the talk about the game passing Hellmuth by and not understanding the math, etc would stop with his 3 second place finishes in this year's WSOP.  It's nearly impossible to navigate these phenomenal fields on pure image & feel alone.

Live Hand Reading

I find the announcing especially interesting because I've played far more online hands than live hands (and now I'm forced to play live, move to Canada or quit playing with Full Tilt, etc shutting down) and the announcers are trying to make a lot of reads in real time based on indicators that you can only get in the live format.

For example, Hellmuth just (accurately) put a player on a very specific hand range based on the amount of time he took to call (you could see this somewhat online but still)...if they could see the hole cards that little bit on nuance could easily be lost and I wouldn't have gotten the benefit of Hellmuth's experience.  Hopefully they get Negreanu in the booth at some point, I'm still blown away by the accuracy of the reads he makes.

At first I was a little

At first I was a little disappointed about not seeing the hole cards during the hand, but I'm finding the analysis to be a lot more pure & useful during the hand.  I often question the pro's analysis of a hand and what players should do next when they see the hole cards because it just seems impossible that extra information it's not creating some sort of bias.  In this case the analyst and myself are really going through the hand reading process, etc. simultaneously and I gain the benefit of being able to truly compare my thought process to various pro's and taking the things that I think will be profitable in my game.

Not to say that games where you see all the cards as things play out aren't very useful as well...I just find that this format allows me to exercise my poker muscles a little more as I watch while also taking in some useful information, strategies, etc.

Not happening in that format

Excerpt from same article:

"Sources say, however, that Detroit will not consummate the trade as proposed without receiving players in return. The Pistons no longer view Hamilton's contract as an albatross with a lockout potentially knocking off one of the remaining two years on his deal"
