Exit: Jack Stewart
After spending the start of his career on the OL before moving to DL, Jack Stewart has entered the transfer portal. With the CoVid year, he should have 3 years of eligibility remaining.
With Jeter’s recent Instagram posts implying he’s gone as well, I believe this leaves us at 86 scholarships. So at least one more transfer should be coming.
Best of luck, young man. Jeter should reconsider if he's thinking about leaving.
He was reconsidering, but that ship has sailed it seems, its not working out.
I don’t think it’s his call really. Iirc there were some steps taken following the season that complicated his eligibility and they were attempting to clear it up with the NCAA and it isn’t happening.
Yeah, that is what I was meaning by that ship has sailed.
Yeah I meant this as a reply to Duke

Maybe he was just headed into the pits for fuel and a tire change!

Ah, that's too bad. He wasn't a star, by any means, but experience, depth and leadership are all valuable - especially on the DL this year. I wish him all the best.
Wish this young man the very best. Had no idea he was on the team. 🤷🏼♂️
who is this guy? walk on?
Well, the post you are responding to mentions he started his career on the OL before moving to DL, so he's probably a former OL who moved to DL.
And since the post also mentions the scholarships situation "now' with him leaving, no he is not a walk-on, he was a scholarship player.
Snark aside, he's a guy who got beaten out on the OL who moved to DL to try to find playing time or depth, but just was not making an impact. This has seemed likely for a while.
I realize it looked snarky, but honestly was just curious what his narrative was... Didn't recall his name in recent depth charts
Didn't recall his name in recent depth charts
Which is why the guy who has been here for three years, gone through a position switch, and has his degree is transferring
He's a Don Brown special who didn't pan out

Warinner recruited him.
2019 class.
That class was loaded with OL and DL talent.
On DL, Mazi Smith and Chris Hinton.
On OL, Trente Jones, Trevor Keegan, Karsen Barnhart, Nolan Rumler, Zach Carpenter and Jack Stewart. Nolan and Zach headed to places with easier access to playing time earlier than Jack. Give him credit for hanging in there despite the plethora of talent.
Plus a lot of other quality players. In hindsight, 2019 might be one of the best UM classes in the last 20 years with 2 first round draft picks upcoming in Ojabo and Dax Hill and we've got several starters both last year and this year including Cade McNamara, Erick All, DJ Turner, Mike Morris, CJ and Mike Sainristil. Not to mention Giles Jackson and Zach Charbonnet who transferred.
I think Carpenter left because his mom got sick, and Bloomington is about 2 hrs from Cincinnati, while Ann Arbor is 4.
I just googled his transfer and found this Indiana site that says he actually wanted to go to Indiana right out of hs but got pressured by people around him to go to the better school, but in his heart he was always a hoosier https://www.thedailyhoosier.com/how-did-iu-football-land-michigan-transfer-zach-carpenter-it-was-the-most-genuine-place/
Not sure I buy it.
We'll almost certainly see more than one transfer. It's still early and presumably the team is looking to add at least couple portal guys/grad transfers, one hopes.
Jacks will be Jacks. "It's amazing how a new uniform can change your attitude about a guy."
"He's still a dick"

Here's his recruiting profile:

#424 overall to 24/7, which is decent. There were better players (Keegan, Jones, Barnhart) in his O-line class, though. Two other guys (Rumler, Carpenter) have already transferred.
This, from 24/7, says he may be graduating in three years:
If so, he could go somewhere else as a grad transfer with three seasons of eligibility (after a 2019 redshirt and 2020 COVID year). Best wishes to him.
The grad transfer part isn’t as important with the 1 free transfer in place, but it’s still good to see that he at least leaves with his degree.
Plus, getting 3 years of grad school paid for isn't a bad deal at all.
I’ve got us at 85 with Faustin’s departure as well. 23 freshmen, 17 redshirt freshmen, 30 sophomores, 11 juniors and 4 seniors. I know we are still pursuing Cam Goode from UCF as a dlineman
4 Seniors? I just went to the roster on MGoBlue and counted at least 20 grad students and seniors who are on scholarship.
If you go into the useful stuff on this site and click on the depth chart by class, that is where the information came from. Academic year and playing year may be listed differently.
Not shocking. I don't think I heard his name once after he committed even when he changed positions. Good luck to him.
I've never heard of him before but I wish him well.

Good luck to him. I do know there was a little talk he might slot in as a depth DT but that never materialized. Hopefully he'll find somewhere else to play.

I only looked quickly, but I don't think Jack was included on the Depth Chart by Class linked above, so this departure announcement may not help us get under the 85 scholarship number. I can't find him on the Spring Roster either (Jordan Morant, our other recent departure, *was* listed on the Spring Roster), as the 247 article linked above in this thread did mention.

Best of luck, B1G Champion Jack Stewart.
Also, every time I see his name I think of his namesake, Racing Legend Jackie Stewart: "Aye, it's a great day for a motorcar race".

Jack stayed... and he became a champion. I hope he finds great success in the next chapter of his career.
They come and they go Hobbs. They come and they go.
He wasn't on the spring roster, so this was already covered. Scholarship situation remains unchanged.
Jeter tried to get back. I'll find out tomorrow what the score is there.
