Even Pete Finebaum Himself is Defending Jim + OSU changed signs last year before game
Caught this on ESPN today. When Finebaum is essentially arguing this is a NCAA witch-hunt, you can tell just how widespread whatever Michigan is being accused of doing is.
Also, love this point buried in the newest Yahoo reporting on this situation:
Reading 11W, they are pinging between two equally goofy arguments: this explains Michigan's second-half dominance and this explains OSU's two losses last two years. The funniest thing is when one level-headed 11W points out the obvious (why would this lead to second-half gains rather than Michigan beating them from the jump), the 11W masses are responding that UM purposely didn't deploy the signs until second half to cover up the scheme. You gotta give it to them for idiocy.
In the end, winning cures all.

Beat State by 40. And then beat the other State by 40.
That is all.
October 20th, 2023 at 11:33 AM ^
And the other other state by 40
October 20th, 2023 at 1:31 PM ^
Why just 40?
October 20th, 2023 at 1:41 PM ^
Because we can't go for 41...?
October 20th, 2023 at 1:59 PM ^
I think we should shoot for exactly 78–0
October 20th, 2023 at 1:57 PM ^
because MGoMathNerds and my bookie tell me "eleventybillion" is not an actual margin of victory, cool as it would be..
October 20th, 2023 at 11:33 AM ^
Then beat the third State by 40.
October 20th, 2023 at 11:58 AM ^
Obviously this cannot be under STATEd
October 20th, 2023 at 1:03 PM ^
You mean underSTAEEd.
October 20th, 2023 at 12:14 PM ^
Then go to the playoffs and beat the 4th State. Maybe if Oregon State makes it there could potentially be a 5th State?
October 20th, 2023 at 4:35 PM ^
Then tell the Fourth Estate to start doing its homework.
October 20th, 2023 at 12:17 PM ^
Well stated.
October 20th, 2023 at 12:31 PM ^
Well we have clearly stated the state of statements about State's...
October 20th, 2023 at 2:21 PM ^
We should start calling them state 1, state 2, and state 3.
October 20th, 2023 at 11:29 AM ^
I really don't think this is going according to plan for the NCAA. Yesterday JJ Watt and RG3, who have no incentive to back Michigan, were mocking these claims as soon as they broke. But hey, the NCAA can get various Yahoo News reporters to write breathless stories that strongly insinuate that an analyst was on the Michigan sideline behaving suspiciously like an analyst, so they've got that going for them
October 20th, 2023 at 11:30 AM ^
Mandel is absolutely insufferable. And he's ALWAYS loathed Michigan -- even way before Jim's tenure. Of course, Stew is a native Ohioan, and he went to Northwestern, so...

You dare insult the prestige and unrivaled experience offered by Medill?!
October 20th, 2023 at 12:18 PM ^
How are they at touch football?
October 20th, 2023 at 12:36 PM ^
Probably rejected by Michigan.
October 20th, 2023 at 1:02 PM ^
My friend and I cancelled our subscriptions with The Athletic this morning because of his and Brendan Quinn's unprofessional, biased journalism.

October 20th, 2023 at 3:50 PM ^
Your friend Jesse Pinkman?
October 20th, 2023 at 9:49 PM ^
I have a list of best unfollows. Quinn is on the list.
October 20th, 2023 at 11:33 AM ^
Yeah, that was awesome to see Watt's and RG3's comments.
Former players know that the NCAA is a worthless, spineless, sackless, piece of shit organization so they tell the real story. And unlike many reporters, they don't have to worry about pissing off possible "sources", so they don't have any incentive to kiss up to the NCAA.

I found it guys, the compiled list of evidence proving Michigan cheated:

RG3 is all in on the orgy in the end zone sign.
October 20th, 2023 at 4:57 PM ^
Because people that have played high level football know this happens everywhere. We still couldn’t win last year after making adjustments. Maybe you guys stole signs that allowed receivers to run wide open last year lol. Roll the balls out and play. If we could beat Clemson when Venables was doing it, there’s no excuse to not beat UM.
October 20th, 2023 at 11:29 AM ^
I don't know Harbaugh, but wouldn't the most in-character course for him to take would be to not do the thing that everyone seems to want, and to leave for the NFL? That said, I'm sure, taken in isolation, heading back would certainly be on the radar.
October 20th, 2023 at 12:16 PM ^
I think it will ALL depend on how much support the university provides Harbaugh as he goes through this situation. If he feels left hung out to dry, it's far more likely he leaves. If he feels supported, then he stays. No one wants to work for a company that doesn't have their back.
October 20th, 2023 at 5:17 PM ^
Ha. Hung out to dry? You think Warde suspending Harbaugh for 3 games for minor violations has no meaning to him? Harbaughs remember.
He gone.
October 20th, 2023 at 11:29 AM ^
On the whole this all seems really dumb to me. Dumb for M to do this. Dumb to get caught doing this. Dumb for other teams to know that these things go on and not change their signs. And most of all Dumb for the NCAA to brow beat M with this when it doesn't even have a penalty for a sign stealing infraction. This should have just been a letter from the NCAA that said, "stop being so bad at this."
October 20th, 2023 at 11:33 AM ^
They don't have a penalty for a sign stealing infraction because sign stealing is not an infraction.
October 20th, 2023 at 11:45 AM ^
It's also not clear Michigan "got caught" doing anything. There's no smoking-gun evidence of illegal scouting that's come out so far. Lots of grumbling insinuations, and an apparent consensus that Michigan is good at stealing signs. But stealing signs is legal, and all those other programs are also trying to do it. As of now, it appears that they simply feel they were worse at it than Michigan is
October 20th, 2023 at 11:51 AM ^
"Dumb for M to do this."
Strongly disagree. Do you really think OSU and Alabama are abstaining here? If UM is going to play big-time football, they'll need to keep up as best they can (in the gray areas) with schools (like OSU and Alabama) that have always gone farther with cheating.
October 20th, 2023 at 12:10 PM ^
Dumb for M to do what? Hire a low level analyst that skirted the rules? Place the blame where the blame belongs. On Stalion (if he even did what is being alleged) & on the NCAA for having such stupid rules & selectively enforcing such stupid rules to begin with.
October 20th, 2023 at 12:23 PM ^
Yep. Some of the articles and comments make it sound like Harbaugh and other coaches were in some major conspiracy. Words matter. This was an isolated incident as far as what has been reported. To tie this to all of UM's athletic department is exaggeration.
October 20th, 2023 at 11:31 AM ^
"It seems to me like selective prosecution. That doesn't mean that some of this didn't happen. I frankly think this happens everywhere....It's a very grey area, and I think if this had been someone else, this investigation probably would not have gotten to this point." -Finebaum
Uhh.........................................................................................

I've been slowly warming up to Pete in recent years. He hasn't been as insufferable from what I've seen
October 20th, 2023 at 11:34 AM ^
They really should stop calling it sign "stealing". You cant talk loudly in public AND request privacy.
October 20th, 2023 at 11:51 AM ^
Sign "understanding"? "Interpreting"? "Deciphering"?
Regardless, if M is better at understanding what teams are trying to communicate (including knowing who among the multiple people giving signals is the real one), that's just the Michigan Difference. Play chess better, dummies.
October 20th, 2023 at 12:21 PM ^
You! You, there! You stop your nefarious sign understanding!
October 20th, 2023 at 11:35 AM ^
I mean, OSU had Don Brown signs downloaded during the 2018/2019 periods...
My recommendation is to stay away from OSU/MSU sites because they are doing what is expected from rivals...
As the conclusion of this, I expect a MASSIVE lawsuit against the NCAA either from Michigan or Harbaugh.
