York must pay $2,134.70 in medical bills to the man he punched, who also lost a tooth in the encounter. He also has a 358-day suspended jail sentence that will go away provided he successfully completes his two-year probation period.

On another note: Who is this Dan Murphy guy for ESPN, I feel like he only posts negative articles related to Michigan. Did he work for the FREEP or something? He even ties Lewan into this just like he ran a full Brandon/Hoke/Morris timeline during his lower student season tickets piece the other day.

...posts regularly for ESPN's Big Ten Blog on general topics, but it does seem that he has been tasked with covering Michigan.  Any thought that his negative Michigan articles is because he is an ND grad or has a vendetta is probably better be explained by the state of our program and the nature of recent, reportable incidents.

I think he can report it without linking it to every other negative thing that's happened.

ND has a WR dating a pornstar, he doesn't use that as an excuse to bring up the academic issues in South Bend. He just reports on the topic he's talking about at that time, an 18 year old and boobies.

...what you are saying but ND isn't part of his beat, and including the Lewan bit in this article is probably more due to the fact that it didn't warrant a story of its own and is unfortunately topically related to York's incident.

Given the likelihood of replanting an avulsed tooth, I wouldn't bet on "full." If that's the case, he'll need some time for osteointegration of the implant (which I assume the $2,134.70 is meant to cover). If the victim has a careful dentist and proper oral hygiene habits, he should be in decent shape.

This is enough punishment to make him experience first-hand that there are consequences for committing acts of violence, but he still has plenty of opportunity to build himself a good life.  I hope he "sees the light."

Unless York makes it in the NFL, he is not likely to have much money to pay off a civil judgement.

The victim is unlikely to find a lawyer willing to take on a civil case on a contingency basis. Neither will get paid much, if anything, for years for years to come.

Best for both parties to just move on.
