Elite 11 -- What I saw
Spent a couple hours at Elite 11 today in Redondo Beach. Just missed McNamara, but met his family who was pleased with how he threw. Sessions were 7 on 7 touch with local HS WR’s and DB’s (some of whom will clearly play on Saturdays). Possessions started at the 40 yard line with as many throws as QB’s could get into fifteen minutes.
Here are a few of my observations on the QB sessions I saw.
Tualian Tagovaiola. Alabama
One of the shortest people on the field including the QBs, WR’s, DB’s & Coaches.
Very thick. Looks more like a fullback.
He and Rattler had the best session I saw.
Very comfortable in the pocket.
Sees the field well. Always finds open guy.
Throws effortlessly with great touch.
Spencer Rattler Oklahoma
On the shorter side. Quite thin. Looks like he’d break if Rashan Gary hit him.
Has an “it” factor… showed some leadership and confidence.
Nice arm with zip on balls. Throws effortlessly.
Moves through receiver progression quickly and finds open guy.
Quick, crisp decision making. Moved the ball well on offense.
Best session with Tagovaiola.
Bo Nix. Auburn.
Tall kid. Athletic. Looks the part
Nice easy throws.
Assesses field well.
Crisp decision making.
Nicest full package I saw.
Ryan Hilinski. South Carolina
Maybe the biggest kid in the competition
Bit of a plodding athlete – think John Navarre.
Made nice throws. Read the field well. Long balls floated some.
Sam Howell. FSU.
Big, thick, muscular kid. Looks like a linebacker.
Throws hard. Long windup. Questionable footwork.
Muscles balls down the field.
All fastballs. No touch.
Receivers had hard time with balls on short routes.
Made some people in stands gasp with his arm strength.
Has some Tebow in him.
Graham Mertz. Wisconsin
Big tall good looking athlete… Looks the part.
Trusts his arm, which is strong but not elite.
Locked in to receivers regularly and tried to strong-arm balls into small windows,
this made for some highlight throws and also a couple picks.
Connected on a perfect, indefensible, corner fade route for a TD.
Looks like an upgrade over past Wisconsin QB’s since Russell Wilson
Lmao, Milton has a ceiling sky-high to be sure, but there's no way he's ever going to start over McCaffrey while he's here.
over McNamara either.
Lmao, I'm always amazed at some of these takes which are based on essentially zero information. We have no idea if Milton is could start over McCaffrey.
Dylan McCaffrey led both his high school football and basketball teams to State Championships.
Joe Milton had 4 INTs and a 000.8 QB Rating in the toughest game of his senior year.
This could be some kind of indication. Or can't it?
But to be fair shouldn't this thread be titled Elite 6 out of 11 ain't bad ;)
I'm going to be rooting my ass off for Ryan Hilinski. For those that don't know, his older brother Tyler Hilinski was the Quarterback that tragically committed suicide earlier this year. Absolutely horrible, and the way Ryan Hilinski has handled it has been incredible. Sorry to hijack the thread, but if you or anyone you know is struggling with depression, please get help. People care, and people want you to be happy.
/End of threadjack
Cade McNamara . . . "looks like a lock to make The Opening Finals."
to have coaches working hard to get him to flip.
Rich people problems.
If you have a QB recruit that people are not trying to flip, you don't have a QB recruit.
