Submitted by Dilla Dude on

Detroit Emergency Manager Darnell Earley has overturned the decision to forfeit Friday's Detroit Public Schools League City Title game.

The game had originally been canceled after a fight involving Detroit King and Cody players occured following a 20-2 King victory last Friday. Cass Tech was awarded a forfeit win.

Are they expecting to get out of debt by using the ticket sales?  Why is he involved?  I don't know how big the brawl was but I would guess that the players involved would be suspended anyway, not taking the chance away from the whole squad.

IF it is true that it was started by the Cody players swinging their helmets at the King players and the King players involved will be suspended for the final, then I think this is an appropriate decision.

I still haven't seen any. I assume that would help greatly in sorting this out.

Did this event happen in 1983? Was there some sort of mobile phone ban at the game? What gives?

In this day & age, when there is video of everybody & everything, I can't believe there isn't some video of this melee (shot in portrait, with people yelling "Ooooooohhhhh!", etc) on Deadspin, The Big Lead, etc.

Doesn't the emergency manager have bigger things to worry about? If I were emergency manager, I would be doing my darnedest not to be like former emergency manager Michael Brown from Flint...

of everything to do with the school district. King parents organized a protest at the DPS offices. DPS had rented Ford Field for the championship game, so there likely would be a DPS financial hit (not sure how real and if the Lions would refund it anyway) if the game was not played. This is well within his scope.
