Duke is finalizing a deal to make Penn State DC Manny Diaz its next head coach, sources tell @YahooSports.

I was at Duke for med school and have casually followed their football program since. As a fan of both schools, I would have much preferred Knowles.

Yeah Diaz was building a monster defense at Penn st!  That is a massive blow to that staff.  Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if they go back after Diaz should Franklin not be retained in the next couple years. 

Big loss for frames.

Great hire for Dook. Manny Ball will work well with that roster. Penn St will start next year with an entirely new set of coordinators

I know this won’t happen, but Franklin would be smart to push for the money to hire away Phil Parker.

Of course.  They just made a good hire at OC. 

It's the yin and yang of PSU - a competent coordinator on one side of the ball must be balanced by an incompetent one on the other.

Now here comes the part where Frames hires Jim Leonard. If there’s any position that’s proven to be a guarantor of future employment as a P5 HC, it’s the Penn State DC job.

Problem: Head coach refuses to give you a good offense. Solution: Become head coach. 

This is great news. I am told summarily that coaches aren't a big deal anyway.

I guess it is back to the drawing board for frames janklin, can't wait to see what he comes up with....

Would have whether had them poach Knowles. Unfortunately while Knowles might be really bright and a very good DC, he puts you to sleep listening to him speak. I think programs are looking for leaders that exhibit a little more enthusiasm.
