Yeah Diaz was building a monster defense at Penn st!  That is a massive blow to that staff.  Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if they go back after Diaz should Franklin not be retained in the next couple years.

From the Duke POV --- solid hire.  It remains to be seen if he's their next David Cutcliffe.

Cutcliffe was the Old Miss HC, he was decent enough there but got fired, spent a couple years doing a good job as Tennessee OC, that led to the Duke offer and a successful 14-year run.

Cutcliffe was seemingly happy to be there and wasn't using Duke simply to "level up" to somewhere else.

Which personality type (content w/ Duke or more ambitious) does Diaz have?  I'm not sure.  Cutcliffe was 54 when he took the Duke HC job.  Diaz will be 49.

I'd be shocked if Parker didn't stay at Iowa until he retires.

He has a pretty unusual career for a football coach, in terms of not packing his suitcases often.  He's 60 and after 1 year as a GA at Michigan State (his alma mater), he has coached at only TWO places over his career!  Toledo for 11 years and then Iowa for 25.  His Dad coached at Iowa a long time too, of course.

Sure seems like a lifer-type.

Now here comes the part where Frames hires Jim Leonard. If there’s any position that’s proven to be a guarantor of future employment as a P5 HC, it’s the Penn State DC job.

Would have whether had them poach Knowles. Unfortunately while Knowles might be really bright and a very good DC, he puts you to sleep listening to him speak. I think programs are looking for leaders that exhibit a little more enthusiasm.
