drinking thread

I had a Samuel Adams Cream Stout. Now I’m about to have a Breckenridge Christmas Ale with the sugar rim (obviously...the sugar rim makes it better).

Bourbon earlier. Now some Navy traditions before the game tomorrow. Port and other stuff that shouldn’t be consumed unless you have to do it.

I don’t know what half of the stuff named thread is.  You might as well say “Schwitzenfurwaffle” and I wouldn’t know the difference.

Schwitzenfurwaffle is an excellent Slovenian plum brandy that’s marketed exclusively in Bavaria. I first had it during a wingsuit tour of the Alps when my best friend—a Stanford research scientist fresh off a TED talk about nanoneurosurgery—splattered his brainpan all over a granite spire after cutting it too close. The Schwitzenfurwaffle helped me forget the cleanup and body identification.

So ... a slightly different post. Yes I’m drinking, at the Hyatt hotel by Briarwood for a Jeopardy watch party . A friend who works for the University Musical Society was on Jeopardy tonight ( didn’t win) and I’m in the lobby and in walks David DeJulius followed by Teske, Castleton, and Johns. I ask a few of them why they’re here and is this normal. The answer is no , it’s just because it’s a noon game. I had a cheap Trader Joe’s  double IPA before leaving  followed by a North Peak Hail IPA and then a Two Hearted (once I was told there was an open tab). Go Blue! Beat the Ducks.

I’ll meeet you XM and maybe we can get another photo op. My daughter wants tickets for the  Presbyterian game (12/21). She’s off to NYC after Xmas. My son actually bought tix for tomorrow’s game in the lower bowl. I don’t think he’s been to one since early in the Beilein era. (The Juwan effect).

Tonight's beverage was a Latitude 42 Lucifer's Cuvee, a double chocolate stout. Good, not great. Just can't seem to love the flavor combination of chocolate and beer.  Last night's choice was better: a Black Magic from Lansing Brewing Company. It is an imperial stout with an impressive ABV of 12%. It tastes like they didn't pour out all of the bourbon from the barrel that the stout was aged in. Looking forward to the other three in the four-pack. (Not normally a drinker of darker, heavier beers. Bought four different Michigan four-packs to deliver to a friend in Nashville over Thanksgiving, but while in transit received a phone call that ordered me not to show up because the whole house was full of sick people. Figured these beverages cannot wait until my next trip that direction next spring.) Tomorrow's sample: a Chocolate Covered Cherry Stout from Cheboygan Brewing.

Latitude 42 went away from what they started ... good German beers.  They used to have excellent kolschs, weizenbocks, etc.

Loved to go there regularly (live in Kalamazoo area) but they started to try to keep up with other breweries and doing weird ales and lost their way IMO.

Try Sam Adams’ Chocolate Bock. That might change your mind. It’s an incredible chocolate beer. To my knowledge, though, it can be found in only their winter variety packs. You can still get one of those packs now, but hurry because they will be gone soon. Costco has 28 packs while most other stores have just 12 packs. If someone lives in the Boston area, said someone might be able to get this beer year-round.
