Midwinter Nights Dram and Little Book 2. Can not beat that combo.
December 13th, 2019 at 7:43 PM ^
Little book three is supposed to be good but I haven't picked one up. If you have trouble finding the MWND or simply want to start with something complimentary with a lower proof first, the whistlepig old world cask is pretty similar in profile.
Great choices.

Great choices! I picked up a bottle of Midwinter Nights dram, Angel's Envy Cask Strength and Thomas Hardy Sazerak for Christmas. Was my gift to myself. LOL.
Drinking Old Forrester 100 proof. Best value out there for your hard earned dollar.

Elijah Craig. Looking forward to the Army/Navy game tomorrow! Go Army! Beat Navy!

+1 for Elijah Craig but Go Navy!!!

One of my best friends is an Army vet, so I tend to root for them. I see your username, how about Coach Munger stepping down?
December 13th, 2019 at 10:22 PM ^
Did not know he had. Not surprising as he had open heart surgery to start the season. Hope he's ok and can enjoy his retirement.

Bad stomach bug going around right now. Couldn't kill it with whiskey so water it is.
December 13th, 2019 at 7:40 PM ^
Drink more whiskey. Either it'll work or you won't care anymore.
December 13th, 2019 at 7:46 PM ^
Unfortunately I impose a strict limit of no more than three pours a night and at least three nights a week without drinking anything. Otherwise I'd be inclined to test your theory.
December 13th, 2019 at 7:48 PM ^
what happens if you cramp up during one or more of the 'pours', and they last a little longer than you had intended? still good?
December 13th, 2019 at 7:57 PM ^
He raises a good point
December 13th, 2019 at 8:54 PM ^
Still good.

Bourbon earlier. Now some Navy traditions before the game tomorrow. Port and other stuff that shouldn’t be consumed unless you have to do it.

My company at least has the decency to fire people no later than November 1st.

I don’t know what half of the stuff named thread is. You might as well say “Schwitzenfurwaffle” and I wouldn’t know the difference.
December 13th, 2019 at 9:53 PM ^
Schwitzenfurwaffle is an excellent Slovenian plum brandy that’s marketed exclusively in Bavaria. I first had it during a wingsuit tour of the Alps when my best friend—a Stanford research scientist fresh off a TED talk about nanoneurosurgery—splattered his brainpan all over a granite spire after cutting it too close. The Schwitzenfurwaffle helped me forget the cleanup and body identification.

Kentucky bourbon barrel ale. In the snifter glass too! Happy holidays!
December 13th, 2019 at 9:05 PM ^
So ... a slightly different post. Yes I’m drinking, at the Hyatt hotel by Briarwood for a Jeopardy watch party . A friend who works for the University Musical Society was on Jeopardy tonight ( didn’t win) and I’m in the lobby and in walks David DeJulius followed by Teske, Castleton, and Johns. I ask a few of them why they’re here and is this normal. The answer is no , it’s just because it’s a noon game. I had a cheap Trader Joe’s double IPA before leaving followed by a North Peak Hail IPA and then a Two Hearted (once I was told there was an open tab). Go Blue! Beat the Ducks.

JBG, you better get a room at the hyatt or uber it!
coming down with all or most of the family for a hoops game, maybe 12/29. any intel on that one, know anyone who will be working the game?

I’ll meeet you XM and maybe we can get another photo op. My daughter wants tickets for the Presbyterian game (12/21). She’s off to NYC after Xmas. My son actually bought tix for tomorrow’s game in the lower bowl. I don’t think he’s been to one since early in the Beilein era. (The Juwan effect).

Tonight's beverage was a Latitude 42 Lucifer's Cuvee, a double chocolate stout. Good, not great. Just can't seem to love the flavor combination of chocolate and beer. Last night's choice was better: a Black Magic from Lansing Brewing Company. It is an imperial stout with an impressive ABV of 12%. It tastes like they didn't pour out all of the bourbon from the barrel that the stout was aged in. Looking forward to the other three in the four-pack. (Not normally a drinker of darker, heavier beers. Bought four different Michigan four-packs to deliver to a friend in Nashville over Thanksgiving, but while in transit received a phone call that ordered me not to show up because the whole house was full of sick people. Figured these beverages cannot wait until my next trip that direction next spring.) Tomorrow's sample: a Chocolate Covered Cherry Stout from Cheboygan Brewing.
December 13th, 2019 at 10:01 PM ^
Tried a Chocolate Covered Cherry Stout from Cheboygan last week. Really enjoyed it. Hope you enjoy it, too.
December 13th, 2019 at 10:02 PM ^
That Black Magic sounds awesome! Dark and heavy beers are my jam, or I sould say my cup of tea, actually that's not right either, it's my preferred alcoholic beverage of choice, Boom!
Tonight it's Wizard Burial Ground from Brewery Vivant. It's a BBA Quad Ale, so good!
December 13th, 2019 at 10:55 PM ^
Latitude 42 went away from what they started ... good German beers. They used to have excellent kolschs, weizenbocks, etc.
Loved to go there regularly (live in Kalamazoo area) but they started to try to keep up with other breweries and doing weird ales and lost their way IMO.
December 14th, 2019 at 7:24 AM ^
Try Sam Adams’ Chocolate Bock. That might change your mind. It’s an incredible chocolate beer. To my knowledge, though, it can be found in only their winter variety packs. You can still get one of those packs now, but hurry because they will be gone soon. Costco has 28 packs while most other stores have just 12 packs. If someone lives in the Boston area, said someone might be able to get this beer year-round.
