Drake Harris Out 4-6 Weeks with Hamstring

Submitted by alum96 on

Someone bubble wrap all receivers, current and future - it has been a rough week.

Grand Rapids Christian’s Drake Harris, a University of Michigan commit and one of the top rated high school receivers in the country, will miss four to six weeks with a hamstring injury, Eagles coach Don Fellows said Saturday, Aug. 24. Harris, a USA Today preseason All-American and ranked a top five receiver by most recruiting sites, re-injured his right hamstring during a team scrimmage Friday. “It’s not feeling too good right now,” Harris said after the Eagles held team photo day Saturday at the high school stadium. “I messed it up about three weeks ago but the past week it felt normal.

Missing at least half a season is a big deal especially for someone like Drake Harris who had not been fully dedicated to football until this past summer.  It is also an injury that if it does not heal properly can linger for a long time. The article mentions he had already been dealing with it for a month.

It's disappointing for the fans who were hoping to see him play this fall and see how he had been developing.

I think this news is more important than the 100+ threads we will have on game reports from our other recruits. I sometimes don't understand the fans who can't deal with talking about bad news. No one is freaking out over the injury but it is a big setback for our highest ranked WR recruit in over 15 years.. I think that is something worthy of being discussed on the board. If you don't want to read it, don't click on it.

Hopefully Drake doesn't have hopes of repeating as a state champion because there is no way GRC will make it through that meatgrinder of a schedule without him.

West side football is the better half.

Just keeping him fresh for next year...

Honestly, that sucks for him and his team, but hopefully he'll be able to recover and come back stronger.

Don Fellows is pretty nuetral when it comes to MSU and UM.

I really hope Drake Harris can be back for the game against EGR on 9/27.  That's one of the most heated rivalries right there.  Perhaps he can at least be back for the Lowell game on 10/18.

Shoot, that's a bummer. I wish him a speedy recovery. I was hoping to catch him in week 2 against my alma mater Muskegon. The teams are ranked 1-2 in the state. Can't miss that.

As a player who was working hard in school in order to enroll early at UM, hopefully he doesn't rush the recovery.  Things will work out in the end.

Sucks when a senior (high school or college) misses some of their final year.

Hope nothing but the best for him moving forward.

Silver lining might be that he can focus more time in the weight room adding good weight instead of the wear and tear of the season. It sucks for him and his team, but for Michigan, it's not all that bad. I just hope he really lets it heal instead of rushing back, hamstrings can be a bitch to heal properly.
