Denard has started every game the past two seasons, so he is 16-8 as a starter.
The only game I can think of where Tate's performance truly affected the outcome of a game was Illinois 2010. Denard left near the end of the third quarter when it was tied or Michigan had a small lead, and Tate earned the win in 3OT.

I believe he started every game last year and this year, right?
November 21st, 2011 at 9:06 AM ^
I think he started every game in 2010 but came out for injury in most of them. He has started every game in 2011 and I think none in 2009. If my assumptions are correct his record is 16-7 as a starter.

You're missing an apostrophe and an "e".

I wouldn't say that I'm "missing" it...purged it from memorty is a better descriptor.

What bowl game?
November 21st, 2011 at 11:54 AM ^
Unfortunately, these guys won't let me forget. The guy on the left is my uncle and the others will be at our tailgate on Saturday. I wasn't able to make it to the Gator Bowl last year but I'm hoping to repay the favor at the Pizza Bowl this year.
Thank God I escaped the brain washing when I was a kid!

Denard's only won 2/3 of his games. Devin has never lost as a starter. Put Devin in!!!!!! #QBControversy
November 21st, 2011 at 9:31 AM ^
Im still waiting for your /sarcasm
Devin, while being a great QB, does not have the same big play ability that Denard has. Also, i think that teams dont respect Devins running ability as much (obviously he can scramble when he needs to). But overall, I would rather have Denard on the field until he proves in that game that he cannot produce.

why so serious
November 21st, 2011 at 9:55 AM ^
I am not sure why you need a /sarcasm expression to see that I was not serious about this. It should have been clear by the vacuous truth statement.

A 16-8 record at msu gets you your own statue and in their top five all time qb list.

For future reference, the bios at mgoblue.com are a good place to look for info on player starts. Denard's bio says that he started every game at quarterback this year and last, and that he also started one game (Wisconsin) at running back his freshman year.
November 21st, 2011 at 9:18 AM ^
Whoa, I definitely don't remember Denard starting at RB...and he threw five passes that game...
November 21st, 2011 at 9:27 AM ^
I remember this game. Denard started at RB but was only in for a few plays. This was also the game that Vincent Smith started playing pretty good (running and catching) and then got hurt the next week against Ohio.

It was a gimmick to make Bielema's head pop, he was never intended to play HB full time.
November 21st, 2011 at 9:27 AM ^
He started at RB for Ohio his freshman year, but that's just going off memory
November 21st, 2011 at 10:29 AM ^
The player participation release for that OSU game has Shaw as the starting RB, with Denard a sub at both QB and wide receiver.

Probably mentioned in one of the post-game threads and doesn't warrant it's own: the current Senior class sits at an even .500 right now (24-24 i think?). Is there a senior class that deserves a win over ohio more than this one? Maybe the '07 class?
November 21st, 2011 at 10:31 AM ^
No not the 07 class. They had the chance and talent to win, but they never did. I wish Hart, Long, Henne, and co would have beaten the buckeyes, but if the school's all time leading rusher, all time leading passer, and one of the best tackles in school history don't show up to the Game, do you really think they deserved the win?
This year's class deserves the 'W'. Let's hope they go out and get it.
Beat Ohio
November 21st, 2011 at 10:48 AM ^
Well to be fair Hart and Henne were hobbled by the time OSU rolled around, maybe in 2006 they should have won; but saying they didn't show up isn't the whole story
November 21st, 2011 at 12:33 PM ^
You really can't fault Henne/Hart/Long for the 2006 loss. Our offense scored 39 points.

Didn't he start the Delaware State game his freshman year when Tate was banged up? Maybe he didn't start, just played most of the game? Can't remember.
November 21st, 2011 at 10:58 AM ^
Pretty sure Tate ran the first drive, got a TD, and then sat out the rest
