Doc Brown: Peppers and Gary might be pretty good at this whole football thing

Michigan defensive coordinator Don Brown is feeling pretty good about one known defensive commodity, Jabrill Peppers, and already has a good feeling about a bit of an unknown at Michigan, Rashan Gary.
Re: Jabrill
“The minute you put him out there, is he the SAM, what is he? How do you play him? Is he a third safety? Is he a third corner? What is he? Those are the things you’re looking at trying to accomplish with a guy of his nature.”
Peppers won’t know just based on the personnel what his role will be.
“Until he hears the call,” Brown said.

And to think I wasn't excited when Brown was hired. Oops.

It's hard to believe this might be our last year of enjoying someone with his kind of talent. He could legitimately play about 6 or 7 positions on defense, not to mention his offensive and special teams skills. It must be fun to sit in the coaches' offices and come up with various ways that he can be used from game to game.

Agreed. I am really excited to see what Hudson can do

I think the fact that Jake Butt and Jourdan Lewis stayed even though they were locks for the draft is at least a good sign for players wanting to stay... Or at least thats what im gonna keep telling myself until Jabrill says otherwise.
It's not all bad
Rashan Gary may not play as many positions...but he could easily be someone with that kind of talent.

The Dude could lead the team in sacks, TFLs, INTs, FFs/recoveries, TDs, you name it.
Hello Heisman
I think he could throw a football over them mountains.

I think 2007 was the last time I was this optimistic and it didn't feel like blind hopefulness.

is the proverbial kid in the candy store....I bet he just sits at his desk and giggles from time to time about it all
I don't think you are allowed to giggle while sporting a mustache like that. Maybe he guffaws?
Really?

I love me some JMFP.
BAM!
Peppers goes to NYC at end of year.
Gary starts to get double teamed by game 4...leading to other destruction from other guys....cough cough TACO I SEE YOU BIG PIMPIN
I'm salivating at the thought of Gary, Mone, Wormley, and Taco all on one line with Peppers, Lewis, Stribling/Clark in the secondary, and Gedeon in the middle. O.M.G.
That's a pretty easy decision to make with someone else's money.
Well the difference is a couple million.

yeah, I expect Peppers to be that "dark horse" Heisman for all the tools to pick before the season, as opposed to the typical QB/RB sort of candidates ..
And he should be in NY by season's end - that would be sweet
I was never happier to see a guy retire. You never knew where he was going to be until out of nowhere someone popped the ball carrier.
I really hope he doesn't leave after this though I fully expect him to go (I can't imagine passing up that kind of coin) Feels like he came and went in a flash if this is it for him.
He said he was staying until he got his degree regardless of how long it took

Part on Gary:
Could he possibly start?
“Never know,” Brown said. “Life is good, and he is very good.”
Brown didn’t rule out that possibility even with a number of veteran, experienced linemen.
“You know the rules — best players play,” he said.
Preach, Doc, preach
Do I look afraid?

and realize he could become the first player ever to be drafted, thereby setting a precedence - actually only right in his case - considered to be both a "can't miss," and "unproven."
I realize Bob Hayes accepted a tryout with the Cowboys and earned a spot on the team without having played a down of football in college. However, he was not considered a "can't miss" or unproven.
You will all understand within five minutes, but I think Magnus was correct in stating he is one that we wil have to accept simply as being fortunate enough to watch, realizing he would be gone much too early.
