A DETROIT penalty

Submitted by Harball sized HAIL on October 19th, 2019 at 4:58 PM

Arright it's been 5 days but last night Huard brought it up and just now Danielson mentioned it and earlier there was another announcer who I can't recount - all referenced the ref butcher job on the Lions.  That is 3 different set of announcers on COLLEGE games that I happened to be watching at the time in the past 15 hours.  If there is more please feel free to add.

We (Lions fans and yeah I get this is a Michigan board) need to own this and run with it.  Right now the iron is hot and everyone in the country is aware.  Lets refer to every butchered call as a "Detroit Flag", or a "Detroiter" (for non flags).  We need to embrace this and control the narrative and get a Merriam-Webster entry.  You know what a NY style pizza slice is.  You know what a Philly Cheesesteak is.  From here on you will know what a "Detroit Flag" is.

Realize that doesn't roll off the tongue so open to suggestions.

This post is a whiny take...

Lets refer to every butchered call as a "Detroit Flag",

... and about as stupid as people calling French fries "Freedom" fries by way of comparison.

Yes, the refs blew calls. That's why you don't put the game in the hands of the refs.  If Detroit doesn't trade TDs for FGs on Monday night, they win that game -- plain and simple.

It's not that they have zero impact.  It's that if the Lions really were good enough to win those games they would have won them regardless of how much the refs effed everything up.  That's what good teams do.  Do the Patriots, Chiefs, Packers, 49ers, or any other team that has a history of being good at football complain about refs?  No, they win the damn game.

oh fuck this take!  most nfl game point spreads are under 5; looks like 3 games this week.  a bad call can easily switch a game from win to loss; especially due to timing.

hell, dudes on this blog did a study of that osu debable a few years ago and determined like a 20 point swing due to bad calls.  even if there is some bias there,  try overcoming that shit on the road vs a top 10 team.

and osu ain't ever going to complain, because they typically benefit from the calls.  remember almost no holding calls on them for like two years?

The only beef I have is with WD... for him mocking the institution I busted my ass to get into and graduate from.

Additionally, you think you do but you don't know what the word trolling is.  Tolling is someone who posts just create noise.

YOU disagreeing with my post does NOT make ME a troll.

My post didn't do that... anyone who has played sports at a high level knows you don't put games in the refs hands... you take care of your own business.  Rather Lions fans have been crying about refs for 60 years.

Such a shitty take, man. Yeah, don't blame the refs... Just.. be better! Come on.  Like Stafford didn't want those 3rd down conversions. They're fighting hard and playing well and they got boned. Theyre trying to turn the reputation of the franchise around and the refs aren't letting them. It's bullshit.

I’m still waiting for ownership, management, coaches or somebody to stick up to the NFL for all the dedicated fans that buy the overpriced tickets parking souvenirs and what but nothing.

This. This right here. Someone in the Lions organization needed to take a fine and absolutely blast the NFL and the officiating. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Martha & the Fords passed it down to everyone in the organization to keep their mouths shut and not upset their cash cow.

Here is the Problem: EVERY fan base thinks the referees are out to get them

Not the team, not the players, but Them

So you can try to patent this, but Others will be out there saying, HEY that is NOT a Detroit Penalty, or another instance of Michigan getting jobbed out of ther 98th consecutive national championship--remember when that happened to Us? Only, it was worse, because it happened to Us

I like it. I'm tired of Lions fans going quietly into the night. We need to stand up against this shit. Maybe it will make refs think twice before fucking the Lions
