Hoke: We're going to redshirt Desmond Morgan and he will be back as a fifth year senior next year

...why would you give Hoke any credit for making this decision? This was really the only decision to make and a no brainer, not just for this team's future, but to put Morgan in a better place to succeed after his Michigan career is over, since there's realistically nothing he'll be able to accomplish this year. I honestly don't mean this to be mean to Hoke, but I give Hoke no special credit for this because he was simply making a quite easy decision in the midst of doing the job he still has (for now). If he made a different decision concerning the future of Morgan, he's no longer just a man unfit to coach U of M football, he's a monster.

The new coach will appreciate that, thanks

Thank you, now if Gedeon overtakes Bolden next year then we'll be all set.

We have LB depth.

Gedeon has wheels and maybe RJS but they don't play much.

I at least give Hoke credit for thinking about the future of the program rather than trying to rush Morgan back in some sort of crazy attempt to save his job.

play the whole season.

Good thing for Des. Likely gets to "redo" a disastrous senior year and likely last year of football with a new coach and fresh start for Michigan's program.

decisions to medically redshirt are almost always made by the player, the team doctor and the coach - together.
October 27th, 2014 at 1:05 PM ^
so does this mean he has the lock on the mlb spot next year, or are we going to move him to nickle or something else for shits and giggles
October 27th, 2014 at 1:14 PM ^
compete for the QB position because we really need a senior at that position "to fully execute to ensure we meet the goals that we will have set. Which is the same every year "
October 27th, 2014 at 2:01 PM ^
It may not be THAT far fetched, he did play QB in HS.
October 27th, 2014 at 1:13 PM ^
He will look at the 55 LBs we recruited and say "Hu....insteresting" and then have to punt on recruiting the position for a year or two just like Hoke did when he saw Rodriguez 89 WR recruits.
October 27th, 2014 at 1:27 PM ^
I hope they move Ross or RJS back inside with him, McCray on the edge. Taco and Wormley at DE with Henry and Hurst in the middle.

Not a poplular opinion right now, but this team, if it stays together, regardless of coach looks like it's a 9 game winner, at least. If Harbaugh shows up, he will get credit for turning the current disaster into a big 10 championship, the greatest turnaround of all times.
October 27th, 2014 at 2:00 PM ^
You mean, as long as Hoke ISN'T coaching this looks like a 9 game winner? I would agree except for the gigantic question mark at QB.

October 27th, 2014 at 4:13 PM ^
but you put "regardless of coach". This looked like a 10 win team, but for the coach. There is plenty of talent for a coach that can develop players and work their system.

Hole took the reins after RR out in 3 years of hard work, went 11-2 and has digressed every year. He successfully neutered Denard's dilithium, I am quite confident he would have been a Heisman Trophy winner had he not been under Hoke/ Borges.

Well, this and Ryan being a finalist for the Butkus award are two of the better things to come out of today. I had thought that there was some speculation early after the injury that he could be back about now actually, but this is probably an even better course, I imagine. Best of luck to Morgan and hopefully he is 100% good to go next season.

Great idea. I am declaring that I am officially redshirting too. I'm done this year and I'll be back next season!
So I'll just watch from the sidelines with no physical or emotional involvement. Wow, this feels so liberating.

He has a very good shot at taking over the all time tackles record. The current record is Jarret Irons with 296, Morgan currently has 229 tackles. I like his odds of getting the 68 tackles he needs to set the record, if he can stay healthy. I see him being a captain and setting the record next year; he will deserve it after the adversity he has seen in his career.
