Denard in #1 Jersey?
I know most of you are just waiting to click on this link and then ask the mods to delete it, but relax, this is real information... thanks to Touchdowns no flags for grabbing the picture last night...
Last night was the Michigan Coaches Tour in Chicago, they had lots of postcards/fliers made by the athletic department/alumni association. One in particular was a flier for the Michigan opener vs. Alabama. It said "History in the making... be part of it" and depicted what certainly appears to be denard in the UTL/Michigan State style jerseys, and wearing the #1.
Mods or someone embed the image below for me please as I don't know how to do it from my Mac.
Not much of a twitter user but here it is: http://pic.twitter.com/zJopqkpJ
Assume that someone at least approved this? I would suspect it could signal something coming down the line...
That's a promotional poster made by the univeristy. When I said posters in that post, I meant ones made by a third party and sold in stores such as MDen.
The caldendars are made by Perfect Timing Inc.- a third party that gets profit out of the product.
Those promotional posters SHOULD have been for free.
Schools can and do use student athlete images to promote university events (Pink Out days, the UTL game, Alabama, ect.). It is against NCAA rules for a third party, like the MGoStore, to sell t-shirts or posters of a current athlete, and I don't know if it was the AD making this flyer or someone outside official channels.
Also, schools can sell pictures of current student athletes. Looking quickly on MGoBlue, the football and basketball images are basically gone now (although in 2010 you could buy the Denard Heisman picture) but I can purchase an unaltered 20*30 framed and matter picture of Haylie Wagner pitching for $229, and she's not even out of her freshman season.
That was very insightful Devotee. I just flipped through my 2011 calendar and saw that you are absolutely correct. I never noticed it for an entire year.
I'm almost positive that's Devin Gardner in that picture...
Google pictures of the game and check out each players socks. It's Denard.
I thought the UTL jersey thing was a one game appeance only. Brandon has done a lot of right, but we really need to stop with the whole different jersey thing every game like we did against ND, MSU, and VT. Alabama, PSU, Nebraska wear their normal uniforms so why can't we too?
I've never actually heard a recruit say that they won't come to Michigan unless they can play in Bumblebees and recruiting has more to do with on the field sucess than what your team wears.
This isn't the exact picture, but it is very clear that this picture was taken seconds before the one used in the promo was..and yes..it's Denard. It was probably intended to provoke the exact type of discussion we are now having. Point Michigan Athletic Department. Let's hope Braylon keeps his mouth shut.
Looks like you may be right. The poster appears to have the right leg's sock down and the left up, just like your photo... Looks about right.
New to the board, we'll see how this goes. I'm willing to bet that they take the field in Jerry World in all maize or at least a maize top. Definitely prefer traditional uniforms though.
... Right; because now with Coach Brady Hoke, we are all about tradition and doing things the traditional Michigan way. Barf.
Noooo the clown uniforms! get it off me! get it off me!
The Number 1 should forever be reserved for an All American-cailber wide receiver, in honor of Carter. Similarly, the Number 2 should forever be reserved for an All American-caliber cornerback, in honor of Chuck. #1=Carter, #2=Woodson. Period.
You callin him old?
No. Great, great player. Love him as a player and a person. But Carter could do things even he couldn't.
Wrong location. Was replying to Dustomatic above. (Comment refers to Desmond.)
for navarre...
I agree with you. But I will say if this happens, Denard is the only Michigan player I have ever seen that comes close to be as exciting as Carter.
Desmond was as exciting as Anthony Carter?
Carter won multiple Big Ten titles.... Denard, unfortunately, has NOT. And fuk off whoever downvotes this.
Giving Denard the 1 jersey is almost as destructive to tradition as those ridiculous bumblebee uniforms.
# 3 for QB?
Who are we, Notre Dame? What Michigan QB has ever worn #3?
If we have anything close to the #1 jersey for quarterbacks, it's #7 (Rick Leach, Drew Henson, Chad Henne, Gardner).
Everyone can just abort this thread now...
Michigan has had such a long legacy with so many great players. That is what we should be emphaszing. No. 1 is great but it's not really worth emphasing anymore than any other number.
We aren't going to see a player like Denard for a while. I say give him the number 1. Or maybe even number 4? Signifying the fourth Heisman winner in school history..he'll be in New York, just a matter of if he makes it to the stage.
As for my opinion about the number: He's special, let him wear a special number....
I want us to wear bumblebee uniforms for all games next and everyone will wear a #1 jersey except for wide receivers
identifying penalty infractions tricky and problematic. I like it.
Denard is making a legacy of his own for 16... And somebody ought to, because they're not going to be printing a Michigan Legend patch for John Navarre any time soon.
1. Enough with the clown suits. Alabama is going to come out in their classic unis (which I happen to like). There's no reason Michigan can't find a set of their own.
2. The #1 jersey thing has to stop. I wish Hoke would put a ten year moratorium on it so people would start to forget about it and then give it to some random Freshman DB in 2022.
Looks similar to the pose stiffarming the ND linebacker
We need a qb number to go along with those two, especially as qb U
The University is making way too much money off #16 mechandise to let Denard switch to #1.
of how that would actually work.
The number goes to a wide receiver and that's all there is to it.
Don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but aren't we the "home" team against Alabama? If so I really doubt we'd even wear white jerseys (regardless of whether they were bumblebees or the normal ones).
