Death Storm 2016 - Open Thread

Submitted by ijohnb on

I hear things are getting very dicey already in some parts of the state.  What are you going to do to celebrate death storm?  Drink?  Possibly drink?  Reports from all over the State would be helpful in order for everybody to decide when to start, well, drinking.  I think those attendance estimates for the game tonight are going down by the minute.

Help!!! I have 2 tickets to the game tonight for myself and my son. We are leaving the Fort Wayne area as soon as he gets out of school at 3:00pm. The storm seems to be far worse to the north than it is the east. So, I'm thinking of heading NE on 24 to Toledo then up 23 to A2. I'm still planning on making the trip. Just hope I'm not making a poor decision...

Is the storm really supposed to get that bad? Granted, I'm in Indy and we have just been getting rain. But I grew up in southwestern Michigan getting dumped on by lake effect snow all winter. From what people are saying here this just sounds like it's snowing. Is it especially icy or something?

depends on where you are.  North of M59 in Michigan, the forecast is for 7-9 today, 2-3 overnight, and another inch tomorrow.  Is it actually death storm?  No.  Is is just a little snow?  No.   There are many schools that are closing early because the plows can't keep up with the snow fall rate and busses will not fare well.  We are lucky it is relatively warm because if it was in the teens or 20s it would be quite a bit worse.

Some snow in Ann Arbor, not too bad. Was supposed to fly out of Flint at 2 for a father-son ski trip in Salt Lake City, but the flight got cancelled until tmrw morning. We're now trying to audible to a flight out of Detroit tonight so we don't lose a day of skiing, but it doesn't look like its gonna happen

Getting ready to head in. Work should be reaaally interesting tonight, seeing that most of my fellow workers are from rural areas or other cities, and our parts come from all over the Midwest and Canada. I see a makeup Saturday in our future; on top of the ones we are already scheduled for.

because these roads are  no joke. I saw an UM bus rearend a Cherokee as I was leaving work.  If not for the students then for the thousands who have to travel to campus and UMHS from miles away.
