Day 1 Sweet 16 Thread
Oregon St/Loyola-Chicago a snooze 12 points total over first 9ish minutes
God these teams are bad.
Are they? Are they legitimately bad?!
Yeah if you score 16 points in a half you’re trash. Sorry to break your buckeye heart.
Not much to do these days huh?
Coach Tinkle’s Beavers need to get in the flow of the game.
Actually, day two if we’re counting the Women’s tournament as well.
These refs suck.
This might be considered controversial but I don't want to here about Sister Jean anymore. I'm sorry I just couldn't care less.
This is exactly how Loyola wants to play. They want a low scoring slugfest
So does OSU, apparently
They're shooting 18%. I doubt they want that.
Pretty sure you could decipher I meant slow paced and low scoring game
It would be great if Oregon State won this game.
I mean, did anyone honestly see a tourney run by these Beavers coming?
Not when you're living on the West Coast and have to hear every year, every sport, every season about how criminally under-rated any PAC 12 team is (they're still in withdrawal from the high point of SC football national championship(s) run). Must be because all the voters are sleeping when west coast games are starting!
well, to be fair, their own conference picked them last. so they must be sleeping early out west too.
A point a minute is impressive in football. Not even getting that much in basketball not so much.
Announcers couldn’t stop slobbering over Loyola’s defense while they were in a 4 minute scoring drought themselves. Really hope OSU can knock them out.
Transitivity aside, it’s worth remembering that Illinois lost to this team that just scored 16 points in a half against a 12 seed.
That was a pretty cool tidbit, the last time these two teams played was 1929 (?), Charles Lindbergh, Lou Gehrig were in the papers... and Sister Jean was 8 years old! Amazing
loyola really struggling... need to hit some of those outside shots.
Ugly basketball right now
Part of it is solid defense but I swear neither OSU nor LUC look like they know how to play basketball right now. Like, OSU isn't playing the type of defense that would lead to Loyola being 1/10 on 3s.
That's an awful bailout call for OSU there - their guy was falling out of bounds, threw a bad pass, and in the process of stealing it the LUC guy bumps him.
With less than 13 minutes left, Loyola is down by 13. They'd have to score more than a point a minute to tie even if OSU went scoreless. And right now, they're well under a point under for the game. How in the world did these guys beat Illinois?
Refs are all in for Loyola!
Neither one of these teams are shooting 40%. That is not because of great defense. This zone is exactly why I thought Loyola would get beat by Syracuse if they played them.
Illinois should cry some more about how they deserve the Big Ten championship. Losers haven’t tasted success in 16 years.
Have to laugh at Brad Underwood. He’s never been past the first weekend and his wins at Stephen F Austin were vacated. How the fuck do you get caught cheating at Stephen F Austin? Oh and the team his 1 seed got spanked by just lost to a 12 seed. What a loser coach.
Been mostly watching the Michigan women's amazing comeback. Loyola had a comeback that wasn't so amazing. They finally got their offense in gear, but it was too late.
LUC loses on their FT misses. They also took too long to get in gear on the floor. 3-pt was horrible. At least they knocked off the Illini.
both Nova and Baylor are real! Inside and outside game is there.
haha. 12-11 score 10+ min in.
Early they both looked good. That got over
What a rock fight! I thought Loyola was better than that and Oregon State was worse. I guess the PAC 12 was the bomb this year.
Nova has no low post game.
They’ve gotten an and 1 and a tip in on the last few possessions. I’m getting local severe weather coverage so I don’t know what’s happening right now but they are scoring down low despite no size.
True they adjusted by crashing the boards
Saw an article on 247 where 7 of the teams left in the sweet 16 have at least one 5 star on their team. Villanova, Gonzaga and USC have 2. It goes to show you that those players are important but team ball is more important.
Nova proving me wrong! What an effort under the net!! Their players are undersized but making up with quick hands and jump. Fun to watch
Right now Nova is putting in more work then Baylor. They are shooting better as well
On ESPN's bracket challenge, the best so far is by Lucenda espnfan7035982023. They had OSU beating Loyola and have Nova beating Baylor to advance. Impressive prescience.. AND they have UM winning it all!
You can see it here: https://fantasy.espn.com/tournament-challenge-bracket/2021/en/entry?entryID=40505981.
There was some 9 year old that had 47 of 48 right on some family CBS bracket. He had some of the biggest upsets. He has Michigan going to the Final Four and losing to Gonzaga
Much unlike last weekend, the basketball in the Sweet Sixteen thus far has been rather pedestrian in comparison.
There are several matchups in the sweet 16 that may lead to this type of play. Our game may end up as one as well
Nova is mucking it up and Baylor can’t hit a 3. Not sure if Nova’s three point luck will last but that last shot was way far out by the Baylor player. Nova definitely holding their own despite being short handed.
How do you recover from 5 TOs in 2 min?
It’s a shame Nova’s missing Gillespie
Stick a fork in this one. Nova giving the game away on TOs
nova was looking good, until that one string of 4 or 5 turnovers in a row...
Still have a chance, but losing Slater is a big blow, as now one else seems to be able to create off the bounce. Need some threes to go down
It’s kind of amazing Nova is in this but they won the 3 point lottery to this point. Tough to imagine Baylor shoots it this poorly again.
