Dantonio: "I don't know if [playing in The Big House] is really a road game."

Submitted by SpikeFan2016 on

In this year's edition of "can't wait to lock them in our stadium for 60 minutes", Dantonio seems to insinuate that playing in Ann Arbor won't be like a true road game for MSU because "a lot of Spartans will be there" and "it's in the state of Michigan."

Interesting take. Fair enough from a travel time perspective, but even so, odd thing to say when preparing for a rivalry road game, especially a night game at America's largest stadium. Other rivals across the US in close proximity wouldn't likely talk like this and we know Harbaugh wouldn't. The only time it's ever even remotely close to a neutral site is in East Lansing in seasons like last year when the Spartans were down.

Time to make The Big House louder than it has ever been and show him how wrong he is.

Show up early, be loud and let's help the team retain Paul.

EDIT: Obviously Dantonio wasn't trying to directly blast the Big House/fans and a good part of his meaning was directed towards the logistics around a shorter trip distance wise. But this is rivalry week, it's supposed to antagonistic and full of backhanded remarks, and Dantonio knows that far better than most. He thinks about this rivalry all year long and knows what he wants his words to convey/picks them carefully. We are allowed to be antagonistic back even if his comments are primarily benign. It's part of the fun of what makes college football unique.

They don't have to stay in a hotel in a different city so I could see it from a routine perspective.  Pretending like there is balance in the stands is a little ridiculous, he'd be more accurate to say the big house just doesn't get that loud.

From the string of tweets linked above, it seems exactly this. It's in the state, not a lot of travel, and he'll keep the routine the same. And oh yeah he thinks there will be a lot of MSU fans there. I'd bet they're separate comments like that, but they're connected together in the tweets - either by accident or desire drum up drama - in a way that seems to take a swipe at the Big House. I doubt it

Considering that he barely has enough players left to even field a travel team, it should feel just like an MSU home game when he looks down the sideline.

looking for bulletin board material, you might have to try harder than that, because the stuff you put in quotation marks, isn't what he said. I don't think it's that bad a take anyway. This is what they said ( the pundits) a couple years ago, about us not leaving the state.

What’s Dantanio supposed to say? “We won’t be able to win this game because we’re not at home”?

Something along the lines of "we've been there before", "we know that it's tough to play there but we also know what it takes to win", "great atmosphere, great opportunity to go get a big win", etc.

Not, "it's not really a road game for us because a lot of Spartans will be there".

Here's what Harbaugh said last year before going to East Lansing: "It's an opportunity to go to another man's stadium and beat their team and beat their crowd and maybe even have a chance to beat the elements."

Every single team has talked trash or had some sort of "bulletin board" material.  And every week we have dismantled those teams in the 2nd half.  I get that it is a rivalry but really come on why would you want to motivate us?  Who cares I will be there and I will be loud as sh*t

He is literally the perfect coach for that program. The amount of real estate we occupy in his head is the same as we do in the heads of every single little brother. His statements towards us reek of obsession. This is why they are truly losers in every sense of the word. Even at the height of their program's history, they were defined by their obsession with us rather than their own success.

Can't wait to whoop their ass and put a nail in their coffin.

is the same moron who went for 2 last year when Sparty was down by 7 w one second left, and Jabril took the fumble to the house, making it a 9 point game.

Mork's response - "I am going to keep scratching".

He is an idiot.  To hell with him, and screw Sparty!

Way too far.

He's talking about being in the state of Michigan and limited travel. It's a good road game for him because his team can stay in a similar routine and not have to fly to the cornfields of Iowa/Nebraska or wherever else you have to go in this wacky conference.

I'm sure there will be plenty of bulletin stuff that will emerge throughout the week, but this ain't it.
