Dallas Crawford Decommit.

Submitted by mmiicchhiiggaann on

http://mgorecruit.blogspot.com/ is reporting that ESPN says Dallas wil visit and decide between Miami, USC and UNC officially before making his final decision.

Dissapointing but i would not mind replacing him with a DT or a position of need. Quite a big DB class.

Whatever Dallas decides to do I wish him luck. He will / would have been a nice addition to this class, but I agree with the OP on this. A nice DT or something would be a great addition that we desperately need in this class.

I'll play.

Hi, I'm a high 3-star/low 4-star DT who hasn't signed already. 1997 you say? Wasn't that, like, a long time ago?

I'm not saying it can't happen, I'm just saying that expecting any HS DT of note to not be interested in Michigan at first, but then be reminded that Brady Hoke used to coach there and decide to commit is a bit of a stretch.

Do they say that to OSU, Miami, or Oklahoma?  You act like H.S. football players are completely ignorant of anything that happened outside of 10 years ago.  Newsflash - there are nice recruits who don't sign with the SEC, there are still kids who remember Michigan being a powerhouse (I believe the game in 2006 was called the game of the century), and there are defiantely parents who still respect the University.  It doesn't gaurantee anything, but it probably still earns him a phone call.

Hold on: the point was that Brady Hoke's name should have cache because he coached an awesome D-line 14 years ago. I'm saying I'm not sure a HS recruit would give a shit about that.

Miami (YTM) is a good example--a team that hasn't been killers for a few years. If their new HC walked into a recruit's house and said "hi, remember me? I was the position coach for a really good defense 14 years ago. Wanna sign?" I don't know how much weight that would carry.

I'm not saying Hoke can't recruit or that the block M won't open doors and take phones out of pockets, but to suggest that the reason this will happen is because he was a position coach a long time ago (to an 18 year-old) seems like a stretch.

If you were a defensive player, would you WANT to be recruited by Rodriguez?  The recent track record showed little ability to develop defensive players outside of the natural maturation of an all-world, five star recruit named Brandon Graham.

okay, so this is how it works?  I tell you something about the board, you go up stairs and type it in.  At least give your husband some credit.  Try this...

"My husband just mentioned that there is room for this mystery DT and Crawford."  See that wasn't so hard.

thanks... I think.  I wish I had an audio recording of us saying the things we were posting out loud in the house.  She was upstairs i the office and I was downstairs in the living room.  I would here her yelling "yeah like you never steal my M-GO-THOUGHTS, " and then see she posted a reply to my post.  By the end we were both laughing so hard it was tough to post.  we will try to entertain more often.

I do want it to be known though that it is all in jest.  I am blessed to have married a wonderful person that has NO past ties to Michigan but has embraced my obsession.

my wife, who posts every once in a blue moon, decided to jump on here and post on something we were talking about (in regards to OP.)  then I got on to her for stealing my idea and the rest is history.  it may be the first time she has posted/stolen one of my thoughts but since I OFTEN post things she says while I am reading through the board (out loud) I figure it's only fair.

It's all good!  She is the best thing in the world and we are just playing around.  I don't think she remembered that it was all on the board and not just us.

Sad to say but my fiancee is on here as well.  She is a Florida grad who worships you know who.  She got tired that I spent all my time here so wanted to sign up.  Now, I have to go to her yoga class every week and teach her golf.

Sorry to get off track.  BH will have an interesting couple of weeks with players not transferring and getting recruits.

Ah gotcha. I guess I must have missed that somewhere. Either way I hope he sticks in the class because we need him. Hopefully Hoke can get some of these guys back on board (Dallas, Fisher, Countess if need be). We need to somehow pull together a decent class in the next 2-3 weeks.

In keeping with my meme, I think the biggest hit that Michigan takes in these decommitments is to its national image.  The loss of a talented kid hurts, but the appearance of decommitments hurts national reputation and further recruiting efforts in 2011.  This, I believe, is the biggest damage done by a decommitment at this point.

has been a joke on the recruiting trail for the last two years. every big time recruit he had commit has wavered or left since he has been here. i was all in for rr but his lack of hiring competent staff has led us to this position. recruiting is a feeder business. hs coaches in mi, ca, and oh LOVE coach hoke and he will be  fed more recruits than rr could find.

Well, he did fairly well on the offensive side. It was the D recruiting that foundered. His three biggest recruits were Turner, Campbell, and Dorsey. Two are gone; one now is a third-string OL. I don't hear much about Bell. Plus Lalota, Emilien, etc. Of the D recruits that remain, it's unclear how many of them (if any) have star written all over them.Maybe one or two. But there are a lot of undersized guys out there.

of decommitments is mitigated when the CC involves two completely different systems.  When you're getting decommitments from a CC where the same system is ran, in that case the image is much worst.

In this situation, the national perspective focuses more on the system in place vs inward system; rather than the new coach.

Most of the recruits going through a CC consult their HS Coach for advice on their applicability in new scheme etc...Sad to say but if this happened during Denard's recruitment, he would be at FL or Central FL right now.

Regardless, you're going to gain some and lose some.  We will probably have a “Boren” or two as well.  Heck, we may even get some transfers ourselves...i.e. D Arnett next year.  He is a B10 guy...not SEC.  He will soon realize that, possibly before signing day.  I see him potentially coming back to Michigan!

While bringing in a nice DT would be great - we do currently have a very solid d-line. As far as recruits who could have an immediate impact, I was thinking Dallas Crawford was on the top of the list - given our current secondary. Hopefully Hoke will call him and plead his case.

I dont know if it has been mentioned but i think we may see at least 1 TE.. i know RR was looking to bring in 1 with Tabb seeming to be the focus ... we are not very thick at the position as Koger will be a Senior
