D. Hart "Update" - Status Quo

Submitted by MGoShoe on

An espn.go.com report on the Nike 7On Tournament includes this information on Demetrius Hart:

Four-star running back Demetrius Hart (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) did a lot of talking with his performance at the tournament making a number of highlight-reel catches. But when it came to talking about his recruitment, Hart had nothing to say.

Although he appears to be down to Auburn and Michigan, he didn't want to commit to those two schools.  "I wouldn't say those are the final two," Hart said. "Because I'm still open, I haven't committed yet."

So there are more schools out there in which Hart is interested?  "Not exactly," Hart said.

So yeah, Auburn and Michigan (Michigan and Auburn) are his final two.

Hart and Kris Frost were both named to the All-Tournament team.

Some more tidbits from the Rivals Florida site, gatorbait.net.

There was a gasp on the Orlando (Fla.) Dr. Phillips sidelines when after Demetrius Hart caught a pass and the announcer inadvertently said Hart, a 5-foot-8, 190-pound all-purpose back, was an Alabama commit. Hart has the Crimson Tide in his top three along with Michigan and Auburn but he has not yet made a pledge. It was a rare lighthearted moment during the heated competition.

Hart showed he can catch the ball out of the backfield.
** Orlando Dr. Phillips wide receiver Chris Gallon was one of the biggest and best targets for two days. Hart was especially explosive and proved he could be a dynamic pass catcher at the college level.

And in an earlier gatorbait.net article

** Demetrius Hart stole the show for Orlando (Fla.) Dr. Phillips - team Zoom Blade - early in the day when after catching a beautiful touchdown pass from 2012 quarterback Nick Patti, Hart spiked the ball and then did a back flip in the end zone. Hart said it's kind of a signature move.

Im really hoping we can land Dee.  He would be a great addition to the backfield, and also nets us another Florida player.  He would do real well in Rich Rod system.

Go Blue!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At this point I feel like we're planning on him coming. I haven't seen any strong indications that isn't the case, but there would be quite the meltdown here if he didn't.

Don't do that to us Dee; we'd really like to see you in Maize and Blue.

For those who know better than I, has the dust settled enough with the incoming class to have an idea of how large a class we could potentially sign next year?

Would love to see an avalanche of commitments from the OL targets, Hart and Frost before the season starts...speaking of which, an unrelated (to recruiting) question, when does practice officially begin?

He would be a perfect fit in our offense and would help build a stronger connection with that talent filled school, Dr.Phillips!

Just need a strong start to the season and Hart will probably commit to Michigan.  That seems to be the only remaining variable - just MHO.  It will happen and he will be a Wolverine, along with a few other top prospects.

A few tweets I was about to post the other day before my internet went crazy on me

Craig Haubert

RB Dee Hart showed very good ball skills on film & displayed that today @ Nike 7On. Not great height but can jump & high point the ball well

JC Shurburtt

Also thought RB Dee Hart (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) looked great in the passing game- came up with several tough grabs.

Dee Hart (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) with another spectacular catch. Very skilled in passing game.

Chad Simmons

Dee Hart always makes big plays. Every time I see him, I feel he may be a little underrated. I will be down in Orlando to see him again soon

And a few plays he made at the 7on7, according to Brandon Huffman

MNW Db tries to jam Dee Hart, who promptly chucks him back about 5 yards and then makes the catch for a first down.

Dee Hart responds with a jump ball snag away from Serra to put them on the Serra 12

Dee Hart makes a diving catch to put the ball down to the Serra 10...

And some more updates from Corey Long at the 7on7

Dee Hart is making some amazing plays.

Dee Hart is taking over this game.

AMAZING catch for a TD by Dee Hart. 19-6 DP

Takeaway by Dee Hart. Still 19-7 Denton.

And from the Scout Live Blog

Dee Hart looks awesome. He's my MVP so far in this tournament

I know it's a bit much, but believe it or not I really siphoned this down.... this is probably about a fifth of all the tweets I found raving about his play.

I talked to his teammate, Roderick Ryles, the other day. He told me that Demetrius and one of their other teammates, Nick Patti, are coming up to Michigan this week.

I spoke with Demetrius, and he said it's not 100% yet, but could happen. I also asked about where Michigan stands. I'll just say that Michigan is fine right now.

Have heard only good things about Mr. Hart.

Seems to be a hard worker and a great back for the Rich Rod system, just hope he makes the right decision and chooses Mich in the end
