Congratulations to the Class of 2020

Submitted by bwlag on

Notifications went out today to early admission freshman applicants. Congratulations to the new Wolverines and future Leaders and Best that will arrive on campus in the fall.

I am thrilled to say that my son will be among them as a freshman in the College of Engineering and (hopefully) a tuba player in the MMB.

Go Blue!

I still remember when my older brother gave his acceptance letter as a Christmas present to my parents. How insanely proud we were of him. 5 years ago, I was unfortunately denied. I ended up going to WMU (over MSU) into their CS program. My brother had made it in a few years before me and I was always so jealous - Ann Arbor was and still is my favorite place on this planet. Luckily things have panned out (graduated, working in Silicon Valley at a well known company that makes phones, laptops and iPods - sorryhumblebrag) I am still hoping some day to move back and get my MBA from The University of Michigan. So congratulations to those who have been accepted and for those who weren't: don't let it discourage you!

Walmart Wolverine here - My mouse hand is tired from the upvoting. Congrats to all.

This is truely the best holiday present for all of you.  A bonus would be a nice bowl win from the guys in blue!

and sit in the student section!

I did it this year for the NW game. It was awesome. You have to pay an upcharge on the ticket at the athletic ticket office that your son can buy through a UM student site.

The only downside is you have to stand the entire game on the bleacher seats. But you can take breaks during TV timeouts and between quarters.

Much cooler than sitting any where else in the stadium!

9 years ago I got a letter informing me I was denied into U of M, but was offered a place on waitlist. Didn't think much of it, it was already kinda a stretch school for me but put my name on there anyways. 4 months later...in May of my senior year, long after I'd already put down a non-refundable deposit on the dorms at another school, I ger an innocuous looking email from U of M. I still remember the complete shock I had when it said "Congratulations...". I literally had to have my brother read it to make sure I wasn't seeing things. Still amazes me how much that one little moment completely altered my entire life for the better.

As a North Dakota born kid graduating from a small college in Minnesota, I was waitlisted for Michigan med/grad school in 1990, and the best thing that ever happened to me in my life was eventually getting in and moving to Ann Arbor.  Years of scraping by in family housing with my wife, student section with my best M friends, Desmond, Sir Charles Woodson, Fab Five, Heismans, Yost, National Champsiionships, graduating in 1998, seeing the birth of my two kids at UM Hospitals, dressing them in maize and blue, bringing them to the Big House as little kids, residency, becoming a townie, and a few years on faculty, and eventually moving off to Wisconsin....  The UM has shaped and driven our lives in so many positive ways.  So proud to see my daugher cry with joy yesterday, when she got her acceptance....

Congratulations to all who shall begin their Michigan adventure this year and welcome to Michigan family.

I still remember getting that letter in the mail - a letter that still sits framed in my home office - and doing a victory lap around the subdivision, which was fortunately more of a large cul-de-sac as it was raining at the time. A special moment indeed.
