Clemson OT Jake Fruhmorgen (former 4*) to Transfer--Michigan Potential Destination

Submitted by Caesar on

He was 119 on the 247 composite in 2015. Article (link) mentions Michigan as a possible destination. He was on Michigan's radar and took an unofficial visit (link).

Transfers sit a year, but Michigan could probably still use him.

Impressive that Jake was a strong Alabama lean for most of his 2015 recruitment (by Lane Kiffin and Mario Cristobal) before a late push by Clemson, and Jake's dad John played OL at Bama for Ray Perkins and Bill Curry before a stint with the Miami Dolphins.

Some good pedigree stuff there.

But I wonder if, being from Tampa and transferring out of Clemson SC due to personal/family reasons, if UF isn't closer to home, just up the road in Gainesville... Further, wouldn't be surprised if Charlie Strong is already on the case, making a pitch for USF even closer to home, in Tampa right around the corner...

Still, SC media has Michigan in the mix... always a wise choice!

Would be nice to add. I saw the LTT thread and got excited. Though it got deleted it appears and I'm not sure why. Is he not a possibility to come back?

Would be huge to have him around in 2018.  Just compare him to the rest of our incoming Oline class and other prospects we are still in on and see if you want him.  I'll take as many Oline prospects as we can get let alone one that already has college experience.

Looks like he does have some Michigan connections too.  Saw this from Scott Bell's (@sbell021) twitter.  Sorry I don't know how to embed.

This seems like a no brainer if he wants to come here. Considering how our OK at best line fell off the rails when Newsome went down, we can use all the quality depth we can get. This is especially true considering how frequently Harbaugh uses 6 OL packages. Even if he came here and wasn't a starter, he could be a buffer between again having to depend on freshman linemen for depth.

I imagine he'd have every opportunity to win a starting job, but we're still only starting two tackles. The staff seems to think Newsome will be back for the season, Filiaga is coming in as a highly touted tackle prospect who's pretty certain to see time this season, and the staff seems pretty high on Ulizio. In any case, it would be nice to be at a point where we aren't one major injury away from doom again.

Seems like a pretty good move, especially if Newsome is able to make his way back. It would give a bit of 2018 cushion to the line and allow the staff to push hard for the 5 stars knowing it's not an all or nothing situation. In other words, one less unknown to develop.

"Fruhmorgen" roughly translates into "early morning," as in "ya gotta get up early in the morning to beat Jake." So if his name has any bearing on his personality, a type A, strong work-ethic kind of guy should always be welcome at Michigan.

I don't need to know what's going on in this kid's personal life, but I am curious: what are some examples of personal issues that don't involve getting in trouble but make you want to go to a different school instead of returning to a starting job on the national championship team in a great university town? Just a couple of possibilities please. Asking for a friend.
