Charles Woodson out six weeks; broken collarbone

Headline kinda says it all.

Sigh.

A couple days ago there was a Pistons-related post that brought up the idea of players we hated in college now playing for teams we like and how do you root for them etc.  I have a harder time the other way around.  I saw this and my second thought was "man, that sucks for Charles, he's kind of old so I hope it's not career-threatening."  My first was, "I wonder if the Lions play Green Bay in that time."  I really wish Woodson had made his professional name on any team but that one.  Even Dallas.

As a Bears fan, Charles drives me nuts. Especially his "We just play and Jay with throw it to us"... because they really did have Cutler's number. (The fact that Cutler gets the crap beaten out of him because of our joke of an O line had more to do with it than anything)

But as a Michigan fan, damn. Why can't my pro teams draft all of my favorite college players?

Ouch.

I broke my left collar bone twice -- about four years apart back when I was a younger man -- and let me just say thing:  ouch.

It's a bitch of a break.  Can't really set it.  Just immobilize best you can and endure.

Forget about tying your own shoes.  It's impossible to reach down with a broken collar bone.

Indeed!  Still, I hope he heals and has as many seasons as he wishes to play.

But it makes me wonder ... on a football team, which position is most prone to injuries?

Placekicker is probably the least injury prone.  There have been some really long-serving PKs in the league.

I'm thinking maybe running back?  Since they're the target of a lot of intense hits.

I was going to say safety or linebacker, but then I recall what Butch Woolfolk told his son Troy about it being better to be the hitter rather than the hittee.

I don't have any stats to back this up but IIRC Woodson has actually had to deal with many injuries over his career. I would like to see where he stands on the all-time list had he been healthy.

As others may be on this board, I am a huge Woodson fan, but perhaps not so much of a Packers fan. Needless to say, his leadership in the Packers defense has been apparent, particularly in their rise to a competent defense statistically from the beginning of the year to now, and I am sure he will be missed in their backfield. Get well soon, Charles.
