CFB Risk Day 9 - We Kicked Georgia Out of the North -- Now We Go South

Submitted by EastCoast Esq. on January 29th, 2023 at 1:16 PM

Quick note before the recap: there is NO ROLL tonight. The next roll will happen tomorrow night.

Now, as for last night....

Yesterday I asked you to help avenge the Orange Bowl, and that's exactly what you did. We threw 172 stars at Syracuse and Amherst to kick Georgia out of the Northeast, and they fought back with...9 stars, which was actually nearly 1/10th of their army. In other words, they knew their options were retreat or die, and they wisely chose retreat.

Unfortunately for them, we want -- nay need -- more. Risk isn't about establishing a foothold....it's about conquering the world. And so, with allies to our West and Southwest, we go South. There are teams in the South that are strong (Texas A&M, Georgia Tech, Texas...), but we are stronger.

But we will have to keep getting stronger. The SEC and ACC are proud people, and we will encounter setbacks that go beyond poor RNG. I won't lie to you....it will be a slog. A long, drawn out slog. But with your help, and the wise orders of our commanders, we can win this thing.

And speaking of orders -- please join the Discord if you can. We're having unnecessary skirmishes with our allies, and every one of those stars will be needed to achieve our objectives. Last night, we spent 122 stars attacking Toledo, which we didn't need or want to do. We're powerful enough that it didn't prevent us from achieving our objectives, but we will not be able to afford that kind of diversion of resources once we are in SEC/ACC territory.

Also, it's important to know that Ohio State and Penn State are not blocking our path south. We have "bridges" to North Carolina and Georgia from the north. Every single member of the B1G Alliance has enemies available to attack. We can go back to hating each other in the future, but for now, Ohio State, Penn State, Nebraska, and Wisconsin are the enemies of our enemies.

So let's stay focused and paint the South with Michigan Maize!

How Does the Game Work?

It is up to each team to recruit players and coordinate moves. You can choose to defend any territory that your team currently holds or attack any adjacent territory. A "roll" happens each evening to calculate which teams have won which territories that turn based on the moves that were made by individual players. The ultimate goal is to conquer as much of the map as possible for your team. There are a number of different ways to do this, such as through recruiting players in sheer numbers or forming alliances with other teams.

I understand we're in an alliance, but PSU is toast, so I rather take their territories than OSU get them.

Seems like we can knock out VT and South Carolina pretty quickly.

By taking Toledo, we eliminated OSU's 50% power multiplier because they no longer have an entire region. Probably annoying for the "alliance makers" but it was a smart move. And they took South Bend from us and Wisconsin took Sault Ste Marie from us, so this is a very leaky alliance all around.

We also captured the entire NNE region, so we have a 50% power multiplier for at least this turn. Very, very valuable. If we can take back Sault Ste Marie and capture Wisconsin, we will have a second region and another 50% power multiplier. IMO we should attack Wisconsin now while we are boosted and offer to give them back Chicago in return along with that entire region south of Lake Michigan. And then they can go south to face TAMU while we finish conquering Canada and the rest of the far north. Then we can sweep down the West Coast to face Texas.

Edit: Ohio State should head south to confront GT. We can help via amphibious landings, but we shouldn't be expected to be the primary force. Our priority should be to conquer the far north and then head down to crush Texas.

Every CFB Risk game has involved an element of Chaos.  In this iteration, folks could opt to join Chaos as their team -- and four people have chosen to do so -- but mostly Chaos gets recruits from teams that are eliminated early in the game (...at which point the eliminated team's players can choose to align with any other faction).

Chaos can't be directly attacked at their home base, Bermuda, and that region's bridges to other North America territories change randomly on a daily basis.  Anywhere that Chaos can get a foothold on the mainland, they can continue to spread from there.
