CFB Risk Day 32 - First You Stab the Can, Then You Pull the Tab

Submitted by EastCoast Esq. on February 26th, 2023 at 2:00 PM

CliffsNotes Instructions

(1) If you want an order aligned with Michigan’s current battle plan before you attack/defend, go to Michigan Risk Central Command. You'll get a few options to choose from.

(2) If you identify as a rogue, head over to CFB Risk and attack any of the OSU (gray) or A&M (dark red) territories.

Drinking Game

Y'all have fought valiantly this entire game and deserve to celebrate. So when one of our Risk Generals told me we were taking a shotgun approach going forward, my mind went immediately to the drinking game that left the Law Quad reeking of cheap beer when I was EastCoast Esq-in-training.

Shotgunning is a straightforward game -- you stab a knife or pen into the side of a beer can, put your mouth against the opening, pull the tab, and prepare to down the delicious swill inside. Shotgunning in Risk is similarly straightforward. You throw a bunch of power in a bunch of different directions, and let the RNG do the heavy lifting.

Last night, our shotgunning did a lot of damage. We took large swaths of Canada, pushed OSU around in the Northeast, and started to push into GT territory in the Southeast. Most importantly, though, with TAMU losing a region and us gaining a region, we took back the lead for adjusted stars.

I know some of y'all fell off after TAMU stabbed us in the back. I don't blame you. It's hard to enjoy a game when that kind of thing happens. But it's time to get back involved. Let's get back over 1k players. Also, remember....it's just a game. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter who wins or loses, but in the meantime we can have fun f*cking with OSU and generally being disruptive. We also have an outside shot of winning this thing despite the Aggies being A-holes.

So let's kick back and down some cheap, shotgunned beer while our enemies get frustrated by RNG.

Below is a map so you can see the team's progress last night. There won't be a roll tonight, so we can savor last night's good fortune through Monday at 10:30 PM ET. But don't wait for the next roll -- get your instructions at Michigan Risk Central Command and then enter them so you don't have to think about it again for a couple days.

Side note....friends don’t let friends shotgun alone. So, grab a few friends, show them how to play CFB Risk and wash down your collective success.

Yaas! The first CFB Risk Drinking thread. I won't be shotgunning it, but I will be enjoying a Dogfish Head 90-minute this evening.

If you choose to accept East Coast Esq.'s challenge and recruit some friends, here's a handy image to text or blast via your social media outlets. I added some simple instructions to include with your post or text. Cheers!

It’s not so much that A&M stabbed us in the back, it’s that the leaders fell for the obvious deception in the first place. I mean, who thought it wouldn’t play out exactly as it did? They’ve been very open saying Michigan is their first concern regarding their strategy every turn. Just absolutely idiotic to play into their hands. It’s hard to keep putting in effort if the “leaders” continue to give away valuable positions due to their naïveté.

I joined the game late and don't know the full history - so go ahead and neg me if you wish - but I have the sense that the leaders aren't so much "self-anointed" as they were the ones who got left holding the bag when the folks who had been leading in previous versions of the game didn't return this year.  Or something.  I give them a lot of credit for trying to make things happen with a thousand back-seat drivers.

I hear what you're saying, but come back and see the game play out.  A hundred people returning to the game will probably have a chance to undo the effect of some previous miscalculations.  There's still one third of the game to play and if you look at 15-turn increments, the whole board is unrecognizable from day 1 to 16 to 31.  So day 45 is not a foregone conclusion at all.

Is there a reason you aren't on Discord? The leaders (not just of Michigan, but of every team) aren't in an ivory tower giving orders from on high. They are actively listening to people who want to contribute, in large part because they need community to buy-in to lead.

Actually, when I think about it, I would say that a lot of decisions are driven by the community, so blame your fellow Wolverines if you think the strategy is poor.

I am on discord, so your question doesn’t make sense. I do hear you though. Good generals always take direction from the privates and then blame them when things go wrong. Great point, my man.

edited to say - I like what we’re doing now and the direction we’re heading. I just don’t agree with your line that the stabbing in the back turned people away. From my conversations, it had more to do with the initial NAP that was obviously BS.

Opponents definitely had access to orders. The new changes are highly effective. Got my first mvp yesterday, too. When we gain a second region we'll be able to sweep through A&M, they just don't have enough players.

There have been some mistakes made but things have adjusted. A third of the game remains. It is far from over.

The number of players matters. A lot.

So make your own move. Get some joy from doing your own thing while helping the good guys.

Where else can you mess with OSU in a minute or less?

I earned by fourth star last nigh. My wife is still a one star. If we can somehow capture two territories, we’ll have a fighting chance. I think 5his next roll will say a lot about our chances.

I played a TON of risk in my life, and am an expert in Axis and Allies (yeah, im a war board game nerd).  When i look at this map, i would believe that OSU in the midwest/east coast needs to be eliminated immediately.  That way, their remaining borders far south would only be able to attack GT and TaMu.  Wisconsin should go down in no time.  Then all you have left pretty much grinding TaMu down.  But focus on crushing OSU back so they no longer border us, only GT and TaMu do.
