CC: Sherrone Moore, no interviews needed

Submitted by LSA84 on January 24th, 2024 at 11:11 PM

He's tutored under our best, the players support him, he proved it in 4 games already.

The man found out during the flight to State College that he would need to be HC... AND OC... AND OL coach.

He won.  He didn't just win, he called a brilliant game, and his OL paved Penn State when JJ was hurt.

If you need a reminder of who he is, go watch the YouTube video of his post-game interview in State College.  You know the one.

Then he beat OSU.

He's 1-0 against Third Base.  1-0 against Frames.

I don't need to know any more.  Nor do you.  Nor does Warde or Santa.  Sherrone may or may not succeed, but he's earned the right to try.  Any hire other than Minter would be hugely disruptive, and the only candidate who might be better just replaced Nick Saban.

And in case you've forgotten, the last Wolverine coordinator promoted to HC won a national championship and is a Michigan legend.

The only open question is whether U of M could find some way to convince Moore and Minter to be Co-HC so we can keep them both, but I doubt U of M would be that creative.

I think Moore is the right guy for the Job as HC. If Minter leaves, thats a major loss. I am not convinced Elston or Clink can step into that roll.

It's going to be Moore for sure.  His development of the OL has been one of the main factors in Michigan's vast improvement from 2020 to now.  He is steady, qualified and is our best shot at continuity.  But we do need to get the OC and DC (if Minter does indeed go with JH) hires right.  For the DC, we want more of the same.  For the OC, more of the same I guess, with minor tweaks.  Mike Hart come on down?

And spend money to keep the rest of the assistant coaching staff in tact.

EDIT: back fill open assistant spots with ace recruiters, please!

“Sherrone may or may not succeed, but he's earned the right to try”???

This is the University of Michigan.

The National Champion.

We have won more games than any team in the country. No one has won more.

We are the best university in the world.

There is no right to try.

Go conduct a search, find out who’s interested and available and hire the best damn coach we can get. Maybe that’s Moore. Maybe that’s somebody else. An AD’s desk drawer should always have a list of potential top candidates to hire if the need arises. Conduct some quick interviews (like Bama) and go find the best coach.

We are Michigan, FERGODSAKES.

Moore proved that he can do the HC duties in big time games. We don’t know what Harbaugh had him do in regards to the daily type of HC duties but you’d have to imagine that Harbaugh recognized potential there and at least had Moore shadow him in some of those off field HC responsibilities. Moore, in my mind, is a lot more ready for an HC position at a major CFB school than Day was/is.
