I guess this couldn't go in any of the other MSU threads.
February 10th, 2020 at 12:22 PM ^
Yeah, the OP is bad and he should feel bad, but I am curious where MSU goes from here. Is it assumed Tressel takes the reigns now?
Edit: Wikipedia says he is their coach. Not the most reliable source, though...
February 10th, 2020 at 12:25 PM ^
I'm interested as well, hence why I clicked on this thread. Had the OP actually provided some news about next steps it would have justified the creation of the thread. Instead he posted... this.
February 10th, 2020 at 1:42 PM ^
Then again, if MSU does hire Barry Switzer, OP should get 1,000,000 points automatically.
February 10th, 2020 at 3:13 PM ^
I believe the OP was referencing 1973 (or so) when it was widely reported that Switzer was going to be named Sparty head coach. The intellectual luminaries in East Lansing decided to hire Denny Stolz instead.
February 10th, 2020 at 12:58 PM ^
I believe he was named Interim Coach, so technically, that would be correct.

“so sad that I know that”
February 10th, 2020 at 1:26 PM ^
How long will he reign after he takes the reins?
February 10th, 2020 at 2:11 PM ^
Not long. Just until it rains.*
* According to my inside source, Tim Raines.
February 10th, 2020 at 2:33 PM ^
Is that by Tim Raines, by chance grandson of the late, great Aldo Raine?
February 10th, 2020 at 2:58 PM ^
Huh, WichitanWolverine? Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, hence the "pedia." It's totally reliable and full of facts.
February 10th, 2020 at 12:21 PM ^
Alright, I’m enjoying this too, but too many MSU threads. Let them wallow in anonymity.
February 10th, 2020 at 12:24 PM ^
I thought about this: If MSU offered ME the job (not, a hypothetical scenario where I'm in the coaching business me, but me right now), would I take it? On the plus side, making a couple million a year. On the minus side, a genuine dislike for their program, plus an athletic department that's a total disaster, and a program that's in such disarray that the chances of me hiring good assistants and putting players in place to succeed as I learn on the job would be minimal. So there would be 12 weeks of sad stephenrjkingface memes floating around twitter until I was fired for incompetence, $2 million richer.
Would that be worth it? Would you take that?
MSU will probably get Shurmur or Bielema, who will lose only 7 or 8 games next year, instead.
February 10th, 2020 at 12:33 PM ^
Make sure you get a really good buyout provision.
February 10th, 2020 at 12:35 PM ^
Seriously? You can do a lot with a million bucks. Give it to charity if nothing else. It's honest work, I wouldn't hesitate.
February 10th, 2020 at 12:37 PM ^
I would take it, and won't even have to think about the choice! Furthermore, I would do my utmost best to improve that wretched program, along with the infrastructure surrounding it. I would establish a mandatory 'deal' with the players and staff setting expectations and consequences, and would follow up with public transparency. I would publicly call on the larger AD, other coaches/teams/players, and the University's senior management staff to sign on, and demand a public explanation for the reasons they won't. I would publicly call out incompetence where it manifests itself (where appropriate*). I would be a lightning bolt of shock to the MSU way of doing business!
I would be fired for either pissing too many people off, or for unfettered incompetence on the football field, whichever comes first...
(* - No need to publicize mistakes - people make mistakes. Exhibit one: Terry Wymer does not make 'mistakes', he is incompetent.)

i vote for SRJK to be the next sparty coach. he would at least set that burning house in moral order, something that has been woefully missing for years.
and he could easily afford to buy a monster van, something that he's mildly hoped for his wonderful family.
February 10th, 2020 at 3:58 PM ^
To answer "worth it" I'd need to know the number. Are you saying I would get B1G head coach market comp? Or am I getting screwed (a million or two) because I'm a nobody?
$5MM a year with at least a three year deal and a legit budget for assistants, and I am in. I think it would be grand fun, and I would honestly give it my best effort. I'd play up the MSU/U-M stuff all day ... I would be a monster on social media.
February 10th, 2020 at 4:33 PM ^
Easy yes. Recruit nothing but punters and every year we play OSU our only goal is to get their players suspended. Forfeit Michigan game beforehand so they get an extra bye week. ???. Profit
February 10th, 2020 at 12:25 PM ^
Ah OP. Bringing back the always funny wack-a-doodle coaching search candidate threads. I mean these just never get old and are always side splitting hilariously funny!!!
Someone should post another one right away. And then another one and another one and maybe another one. You know - like the good old days around here.
February 10th, 2020 at 12:33 PM ^
mGrow - You are showing your non-Millenial age with the use of "wack-a-doodle". Should stop with those shenanigans, you rascal - makes you look square.

Don’t be a dog faced horse soldier.
February 10th, 2020 at 12:39 PM ^
It is a pony soldier, mind you, and I seriously cannot believe that he said that.
That's a wrap, there.
February 10th, 2020 at 12:45 PM ^
We're all adults here - ponies are for kids.
February 10th, 2020 at 1:03 PM ^
Funny but very subtle references, right on the border of Mgoblog Neg Zone. Love it!
February 10th, 2020 at 1:25 PM ^
Really odd thing to say. Was that a reference to something? Or is that just the insult that was at top of mind for him?
February 10th, 2020 at 1:53 PM ^
Would have been more in character for him to grab her shoulder, and whisper in her ear: "You're full of shit, girlie. But I bet the college fellas can't keep their eyes off a pretty co-ed like you."
February 10th, 2020 at 2:05 PM ^
Screw it -
MSU CC - Former Vice President Joe Biden.
February 10th, 2020 at 2:31 PM ^
Insiders have told me that Pierre Delecto to MSU is a done deal. They just need the BOT to sign off on the hire tomorrow AM.
February 10th, 2020 at 8:15 PM ^
Hookers and blow with Joe Biden would be spectacular.
February 10th, 2020 at 6:50 PM ^
No malarkey from Joe.

Grumpy just resigned last week, leaves the other 19 shown...
February 10th, 2020 at 12:29 PM ^
Who the fuck cares? Let them burn the program to the ground. I’ve learned my lesson to ever feel a shred of sadness to them. Stop with these pointless threads please
February 10th, 2020 at 12:42 PM ^
Barry Switzer also has significant experience dealing with teams that are out-of-control off the field. He'd be perfect!
February 10th, 2020 at 1:02 PM ^
Anyone know if Jim Comparoni has been terminated yet?
February 10th, 2020 at 1:31 PM ^
I saw on twitter that people are tracking flights, they got their hopes up yesterday when someone posted a photo of the feet of several people getting on the MSU plane to fly from Cinci to Lansing.
Good times.
February 10th, 2020 at 3:50 PM ^
I hear rich rod is available.
February 10th, 2020 at 3:59 PM ^
Wait... Barry Switzer is 82 years old? Fuck I'm old. God dammit... Thanks a lot AmazingBlue...
February 10th, 2020 at 5:11 PM ^
This job was made for Bret Bielema.
Do it, Spartan Nation. Bring him home to the Big Ten.
February 10th, 2020 at 11:20 PM ^
Former MSU player and NFL player and coach - Wayne Fontes.
And he’s only 80, so much more youthful than Switzer.
