CC: JUB Interview re: his thoughts on the coaching search

Submitted by michgoblue on

John U. Bacon was interviewed on myfoxdetroit last night following the Michigan football bust, and of course the topic shifted to the coaching search.  For those who don't want to listen, JUB said:

1.  He believes that Harbaugh is still Michigan's top choice and that JH is still considering the option.

2.  He does not believe the recent NFL.com and similar NFL-source reports that Harbaugh has rejected Michigan.

3.  He also does not believe reports that Harbaugh is "signed, sealed, delivered" to Michigan.

4.  He believes that even Harbaugh doesn't know at this point.

5.  If we do not land Harbaugh, JUB still believes that we would end up with Miles.  His reasoning is that Hackett knows that much of the fanbase wants Miles if Harbaugh says no, and that Hackett is very good at listening to the fanbase.

6.  Finally, JUB says that we are in for a few more weeks of speculations because "all sides" are entering a "dark period."   (I think that we have been there since last Tuesday, as we have heard NOTHING of substance - only media speculation going in every possible direction - from anyone other than the sourced "searchbits" from Brian).

Nothing new or earthshattering, although JUB's take on Miles differs from what many here think.  I always took Hackett's comments about looking for a coach who can win withing shenanigans to mean that Les was unlikely, but who knows.

I actually don't think Hackett has Miles in the #2 slot.  I suspect there might be a few others guys camped out there.  In fact, I think the reason Lloyd is so strongly behind Harbaugh at #1 might actually be more because he still doesn't want Miles than because he's decided he suddenly loves Harbaugh.

Clearly Bacon doesnt know Hackett. And this is just more guesswork and no insight or contacts. He hasnt even taken the time to read about Hackett. Yet Hackett is responsible for thousands of sales of Bo's Lasting Lessons.

Credible source (who must remain anonymous) that Jim Harbaugh will accept, but only if Michigan promises to fire John Beilein for losing to NJIT and hires Tom Crean. It wasn't on the internet, but it's still completely true.

On the front page of the NFL section, ESPN is featuring an article by 'NFL Insider' Mike Sando (not sure I've even heard of him) titled "A dozen NFL coaches at risk." Basically he tries to place odds on guys getting fired along with some other gobbledygook.

Regarding Philbin, it says he's got a 2-1 chance of being ousted in Miami, stating that Stephen Ross "made public pushes for high-profile coaches in the past, going after both Harbaugh and Jeff Fisher. A bad finish by Miami could be enough reason for Ross to make a change, particularly with Harbaugh likely to be on the open market."

So yeah, doesn't seem like this Sando guy is completely tuned-in. Just another example of an NFL journalist from a major news outlet making the case for a lack of credibility.

Love him as a coach but have the same concerns as others. Oversigning won't be a problem but the legal problems his players have accumulated in the last 5 years would embarras anyone not named Urban

I know people feel this is played out but if Jim Harbaugh ends up as Michigan's head coach I will eat a lemon. I just don't see Harbaugh happening.

Everyone always looks at records and nothing else. LSu lost 11 players the last 2 years to the NFL for a total of 22, he always has players leaving early on him.  Look at the list below Miles has put the second most players in since 2007, 43 players, uofm has 25.  If Jim says No Les Miles is a must especially if its over a Schiano, Addazio, Shaw, type coach.
