CBS - Re-seeding the tourney

Submitted by snarling wolverine on

We . . . moved down a seed?

They have us as the 9th-best team, which would make us the top #3 seed.  Tennessee is ranked one spot above us.

The writeup:

9. Michigan: Things opened up a bit for the Wolverines in the bottom half of the Midwest Region with Duke losing, but Tennessee could pose an issue. They cruised past Wofford and Texas, but will they be able to handle the Vols' bigs?

Tenn is 8-1 in their last 9 games.  That includes wins over 0 ranked teams (and the majority of the beaten teams are below .500 teams).  Tenn has 1 (home) win over a ranked team, ALL SEASON.  That team, (then unranked) UVA, Tenn somehow beat like a red-headed stepchild.   Of course, at that time UVA had also lost to Green Bay.  Without that win, there would be no hype.

We're 9-1 in our last 10 games, though also including just 1 win over a ranked team.  Of course, we've beaten about 200 ranked teams this year (many of them on the road).  We have a 10 game win steak and a 7 game win streak.  We also tend to truck SEC teams that "we can't beat".  I don't know about CBS, but I'd bet on Blue.

Oh, and fuck Phil Fulmer.

It wouldn't be a shock to see the 11th-seeded Volunteers continue to roll all the way to Dallas. After beating Iowa in overtime, they steamrolled Massachusetts and Mercer with ease. Their past seven wins were by an average of 22.9 points - Borzello's descrption of Tennessee

The mentioning of random stats with no context irritates me sometimes. For example, UMass is 168th in offensive efficiency and Mercer is 78th in defensive efficiency, so if you find the weaknesses, you're not exactly playing the brightest and best on certain metrics. As for their average margin of victory, I think this was picked apart a bit in the KenPom thread this morning - they only won a handful of their games by single digits.

If it were Michigan v (tiny no-name school), they could sell the Cinderella line.  Since it's Michigan v (large SEC school that got trucked a few years back), there's a need to hype Tenn as a great squad to make it more interesting for tv eyes.

what CBS,ESPN or any other 'experts' have to say.An example of their collective low level of knowledge was the color guy who said 'Wofford/Texas (forgot which) is wisely packing it in on defense to negate Michigan's strong post threats on offense." Anyone with a pulse realizes the EXACT opposite is true.

.I do understand why people unestimate us because we are a very unconventional team.We get very few fast break points, offensive rebound put backs and post up/interior points. We aren't a good rebounding team and I'd say we're average on defense. We also are a 'casual' team ie no slapping the floor, overly exuberant displays & a calm coach.Additionally people just can believe a team can consustantly hit so many three's.

Ignore the naysayers and just keep winning.(58 wins & counting in last 2 years)

We handled Texas and they were the number 3 rebounding team in the country.  I'm not too worried.  Didn't we beat a better Tennessee team in the tourny a few years ago?

You know how coaches and players say they avoid the news when they're playing well to avoid the hype? We know it's bs. But this week? Wow everyone loves Tenn and the players are gonna have a chip on their shoulders, which is exactly how I prefer it. Better to be an underdog that can win than a front runner that people think is overrated.

I would love to face Louisville. What would be even more fun is if they announced Spike would start.

he'd get a bit more love from the media flacks. Whatever.

1. That script font on the Spartoons jerseys looks like it was hand-drawn by a ten-year old.

2. Holy hell, Steve Fisher done got old on us.
