Carr, Woodson & Brady

Submitted by massblue on

Two interesting and somewhat related pieces on these three Michigan men.  The openning senstence of the first one made me think how great the 1997-1999 teams were (Link):

Arguably the two greatest players at their respective positions in NFL history both played for Lloyd Carr at Michigan.

If you add Steve Hutchinson, then you have 3 future Hall of Fame members on those teams.  By the way, who was the talent evaluator back then?  He was great.

The second piece makes the case that Woodson has had the best football career ever (Link

When you think about the annals of football history, there are a few names that come to mind about some of the greatest of all-time. Jerry Rice, Joe Montana, Deion Sanders, Tom Brady, Jim Brown and more all immediately spring to mind when it comes to those who have broken the mold in the NFL, but who has had the greatest career out of them all? For my money a strong case could be made for Charles Woodson, who announced that at the end of this NFL season he will retire after 18 NFL seasons.

If anyone's wondering: Kurt Kittner was drafted in the fifth round by Atlanta, started a few games late in the season after Michael Vick got injured, and played poorly. The Falcons let him go and he bounced around for a year or two before landing in NFL Europe, where he won World Bowl XIII MVP. His last football experience was in 2005, a cup of coffee with the Bears that didn't include a snap. He's now a real estate agent in Chicago and lives with his former Illinois tennis player wife while doing color for Illinois radio broadcasts. Fuck Kurt Kittner.

One difference between our points of view is that when I watched Brady QB us in that Orange Bowl vs Bama, while the game was going on I was saying to myself that he was having the single best QB performance I'd ever seen by a Michigan QB.  He won that game for us because he played at an A++ level.  Had he played at say, your average UM QB B+ level, Alabama wins.  Brady was absolutely incredible that game, and it still remains the finest QB peformance I have ever seen by a Michigan QB.

If only LLLLLLLloyd had a clue, TB 10 would've delivered another NC.  To have 2 of the GOAT's at Michigan at the same time is amazing.

But look at what TB goes home to!  That makes him the GOAT!!

Woodson was the biggest "difference maker" of all time. He singlehandedly contributed to the outcomes of more games than arguably anyone I've seen. As for greatest career? You'd have to be a moron to argue against the career that Brady has had.
