Regarding conference expansion. One of the reasons I've seen about Texas staying in the Big12 is the possibility of an all Texas channel. With the possibility of 16 teams in the Big Ten I think it would merit a second channel, one for each division if you will. In the "Armageddon" scenario where the Big 10 were to get Nebraska, Missouri, Texas, and Texas A&M. That might force ND's hand to join which I believe would create more than enough desire for the new channel which would then more than double the revenue created by the current channel and everyone gets more.
It would be awesome if the BTN got to the Ocho before ESPN did.
have you seen the programming on BTN in the summer?
also, as it is, they don't show a lot of live events outside of basketball and football. live HDTV production is expensive. I don't see it happening any time soon.
I just watched Tate Forcier take a 31-yard keeper to the house thanks to BTN's summer programming! You bite your tongue!
I agree that the content is awful during the summer but with those big names there is that much more to show. During the fall and winter though I think would make up for it and people would buy.
Those in charge of BTN programming need to get with the... uh... program. Way too much "campus programming" not nearly enough replays of sporting events.
BTN 2- Electric Boogaloo
This time it's personal.
double the queso emergencies
theres like 11 ALT BTN stations on U-Verse for other games if need be, I don't think BTN2 is necessary.
Yes. Thank you.
The only time there is a crunch for space is on football saturdays or maybe a weekday or two during the winter when basketball games overlap. There is no need for a second channel. They have the alternate channels for a reason.
But my point was that if Texas thinks it can fill an entire channel with content and have it be profitable then why not beat them to it. Doubtful that many in the midwest would pay for the Texas channel but the nation would pay for 2 channels that included Texas, Nebraska, ND, tOSU, and Michigan.
We can't fill an entire channel with content for 11 teams. How is Texas going to do it for 1-3 good teams and 8 or so bad ones? Like he said, the only time there is an issue is on football saturdays and they can have as many Alt channels as they want then.
To be fair, they probably could if they were willing to spend the money to do so (hell, some of it would even be free, like more replays instead of shiiiiiitty campus programming).
In the "Armageddon" scenario where the Big 10 were to get Nebraska, Missouri, Texas, and Texas A&M. That might force ND's hand to join
No, that wouldn't force ND to do anything. Their future rests largely on what happens with the Big East.
The ballooning of number of teams is not necessarily a problem if you have satellite. You get the Big10 network on multiple channels (at least when I was in Dallas, that was true) Likely they'll start to take on multiple games at the same time and split depending on part of the country or local teams like they do for ABC/ESPN. There certainly isn't enough interest when football or basketball isn't playing to have a BTN2.
Big Ten Network 2: Crucify This
any team outside of a Super Conference would essentially become a Division II team. I wouldn't be opposed to a BTN- 2 Channel to cover such games. Liberty University Vs ND - priceless.
If they do get a BTN2, I would really like to see more baseball or see Michigan on TV more than 3 times in a season. With 2 channels I would hope they would double the amount of live baseball games.
That would mean their would be two channels to show old football games to help get me through the summer. Can't complain about that.
Maybe it will be the other way around, with ND used to entice Texas:
