Brian Jean-Mary probably had second thoughts about his buyout.  He signed a two-year contract  in January of 2020. He made $415,000 in his first season and will make $450,000 in the second year. If he leaves for another job before the expiration of the contract, he owes Michigan a buyout fee that is 100% of his annual base salary.

Interviewed for a position coaching spot with an NFL team with a new head coach who is one of the best college coaches ever=win for Michigan on the recruiting trail.

I think it is ludicrous to think Meyer spends any time thinking of Harbaugh or Michigan right now. He’s got a pro franchise to turn around. BJM likely reached out to Strong some time ago when he faced uncertainty about his future. Makes sense. Then Strong lands the DC job and has a place for BJM. BJM considers the option now with things clarified and chooses to stay with Michigan. I would say looks good for Harbaugh and Michigan, not the opposite.

Interesting...then again I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.  One the one hand BJM seems like a quality coach and recruiter, on the other hand the LBs looked like they regressed last year.  I'd be curious to know if he was offered the job and/or if he even wanted it.  Obviously he's new to UM and I don't have a beat on his relationship with JH.  But, he obviously has a strong relationship with Strong.  Then, throw in the Urban/JH/OSU/UM slant and it's intriguing what really occurred here.

Daily reminder that Don Brown coached linebackers.

If true I think that's actually news to a lot folks who just think of him as the DC, particularly when you consider BJM is listed as the current LB coach and BJM was here last year.  Did BJM change position groups and if so what did he coach last year?

Get with the 2021 picture, man, we are moving right along and we are going to blame all of the defensive issues on Don Brown. Nua couldn’t recruit his size of interior player because of Brown and the linebackers sucked because of Brown. Got it???

lol my bad :). In all seriousness, I'm all on board with the fact it was time for Brown to move on based quite a few factors, but I'm not ready to bang the drum that the LBs sucked in 2020 because of Brown.  Did he all of a sudden forget how the teach the very same things he taught to Bush just a few years earlier?  I think we may be getting carried away with the blame game if are lumping McGrone & Ross poor play in one short Covid year when we've got lots of good LB play all the other years of Brown.

I think He's a good young coach and I'm glad he's staying. I think our D will be better next season but until we recruit more DTs and DBs, it will not be great for a while. The offense is going to have to score a lot for the next several years if we want a decent record 9 or more wins per season.

Expected him to be gone with his ties to Strong. Figured Jacksonville was ready to pay any price but maybe they couldn’t afford the buyout and the raise.
