Brian and MGoBlog subject of Ann Arbor Observer article!
February's Ann Arbor Observer just hit the streets and on page 29 is article entitled: " How important is Brian Cook's MGoBlog? Just ask Dave Brandon."
As of now there are no links to read the article, unless you pay $10 to subscrive to The Observer. I am a street subscriber and it isn't letting me link it unfortunately. I will keep trying and will add if successful.
Anyway, it starts with "someone called Wolverine Devotee" posting another fan's e-mail from DB "suggest you find another team to support", to Brian's careful handling of this situation, to other members posing other rude DB messages, and then how the whole story went national - possibly contributing to DB's early resignation.
The rest of the article mainly talks about Brian's unique background and all the other things we all love about this website, such as detailed analyses. The article concludes with his warming up to AD Hackett and Brian's growing success with this blog.
I hope others will be able to read this article and just want to tell Brian how many of us enjoy the intelligent, humorous and passionate discussion you made possible by following your dreams.

Is Brian Bob Woodward and Wolverine Devotee Carl Bernstein, or the other way around?
January 27th, 2015 at 2:28 PM ^
The real question is "Who is Deep Throat?"
January 27th, 2015 at 2:57 PM ^
The next question is "Who is PeterKlima?"
January 27th, 2015 at 4:07 PM ^
Senator Joe McCarthy.

Roy Cohn.

It's no surprise to me Verlander ain't the pitcher he once was. She's sapping his vital juices every night.

Deep Throat is WD's friend's aunt; WD's friend's uncle is one lucky bastard.
January 27th, 2015 at 2:32 PM ^
I think it's obvious that Brian is both Woodward and Bernstein, and WD is Deep Throat (had Mark Felt been really bad at keeping his true indentity and sources a secret).

'nuff said.

They say any publicity is good publicity, but in MGoBlog's case it is well deserved.
Yeah, at times the comments can reach the snarky level of lesser boards, but this will always be my go-to for all information related to Michigan.
January 27th, 2015 at 2:40 PM ^
I've always felt that the snark on this blog is far superior to what I've seen on other blogs.

is essential to any good discussion forum.

and then there's Snark:

Wolverine Devotee = Lloyd Brady of the interwebs?
WD, when are you doing your first podcast interview with your newfound fame?

It's a movement

Thank you MGoBlog staff for making MGoBlog and keeping it awesome. One of my favorite websites.
January 27th, 2015 at 2:31 PM ^
If you judge "favorite websites" based off of web activity, I'd say not only is it my favorite but also smashes Google despite the fact that Google is my homepage.

Shut down the blog, Brian; you've reached the mountaintop. I just hope you revel in this moment. You made it into the Ann Arbor Observer.
January 27th, 2015 at 2:35 PM ^
The mountaintop is when John McPhee rolls in from Princeton to do a New Yorker piece on the genius of Brian and the blog. Great job Brian!
January 27th, 2015 at 2:41 PM ^
False.
The real peak is when a contestant says "What is MGoBlog?"
Alex then replies, "You must Harbaugh in the form of a Harbaugh."

Brian is good. Mgoblog is good.

"How important is Brian Cook's MGoBlog?"
"Now why would you ask a dumb question like that?"

I have Brian's autograph! It must be worth millions now. I'll sell my HTTV on Ebay.

I truly believe none of this would have come to light. There were influencial insiders that wanted to give hoke one more year no matter what the record. Back in the day the behind the scenes comments and activity would have remained under wraps and press release statements would have glossed over things like the concussion debacle, stake-gate. Michigan would have missed the window of opportunity to get harbaugh. Brian and mgoblog played a big part in all of it.

the internet provides the athletic department with a ton of almost immediate feedback on things. Plus they probably get ideas from it all. In the case of Brandon, he chose to ignore a lot of it until it came back to bite him. But back in the day, I'd guess the athletic department received comparatively little feedback other than from those really close to the program. It really can be a big plus today - as well as a headache at times.

Fun fact: If you live in Ann Arbor, the Observer is free to your doorstep. All you have to do is register, if someone hasn't already at your address. I used to get it at one of my student apartments without even asking for it, and it was wonderful.

Boy, first he was in Men's Journal, now the Ann Arbor Observer... What's next? We ought to start a campaign to get him in Women's Health.

I'd vote for a spread in Bon Appetit with Mrs. Brain telling the world what she cooks for Cook.

The Observer is a great local publication and I consider this to be real feather in the cap of MGoBlog.
Which leads to me to the following: Why haven't we seen an MGoBlog cap?

In one of my first versions of the article I referenced that, last year, I spoke to the bar association in Grand Rapids about a software project that I have. It was, strictly "blah, blah, blah" about nothing that would interest a normal human.[Sorry, GRBA]
After I was done speaking a guy came up to me and asked, "What is Brian Cook like?" I thougt, "Perfect question."
There are so many terrific posters on this site I am continually in a new rebirth of wonder. And, Don, thanks for your weekly calls and contribution to the MGoBlog Roundtable.
