Brian's Trip to Columbus

Submitted by bluebyyou on

Last year, I read a story that Brian wrote about a trip to Columbus several years ago.  He went with several friends, including "Cripplesticks", his term of endearment for his med school friend who used crutches.

I would love to find the story.  I have searched for an hour, but keep coming up with blanks.

If someone can find a link, I would really appreciate reading it...if you haven't read the story, you should.

Go Blue!  Let's kick some Buckeye ass tomorrow!

That was awesome. You see Brian, your misery has had positive impact. That being said, I don't think I would make a trip to that shit hole of a state to watch The Game.

My one and only trip to that place was 1998.  I actually traveled to the game with a friend who happened to be a fan of that team.  We hit a deer on the way down and that foreshadowed the weekend for me.

We stayed at one of his friend's apartments and actually had a good time Friday night.  Saturday was different.  There were two of us who are Michigan fans and six of them who I guess are fans of that team.

It was cold and they won.  I took a lot of body blows before and after the game without provocation.  The worst part was after the game when one of the guys I went to the game with announced he had to kick my ass on principle because I am a Michigan fan,  He said he liked me as a person but still had to kick my ass.  He played baseball at that school and I am admittedly a small non athelete.  He proceeded to essentially kick my ass.  I was then informed I better turn my Michigan jacket inside out or I might get my ass kicked again.  They won, I kept my mouth shut, and this happened.  It sucked and confirmed that most fans of that team suck.

I lived in Columbus for 2 years. I lived in a small city called Zanesville, Ohio before the rest of my life besides the 4 years in Japan. Zanesville is about 45 miles east of Columbus so they are also huge OSU fans. It is really sad that OSU literally controls Columbus. Columbus will never have a big money making sports team except for OSU. As I was growing up I saw how ignorant the OSU fans were so I became a Michigan fan. I also had a cousin that was like a big brother to me who was a big Michigan fan. I would hear every excuse imaginable about why they lost a game. It didn't matter how bad they were outplayed there was one reason that they lost the game. If you don't believe me then ask an OSU fan why they lost that national championship game against Florida. I gaurantee that they will say it was because they lost Ginn. I have almost gotten into fights I do not know how many times because of ignorant OSU fans. They are completely ignorant about every college sports team other than OSU. This story by Brian is a classic example of why I am and will always be a Michigan fan.

The other day on a thread from a first time traveller to Columbus I posted similar stories from my past there. Because Michigan fans simply cannot believe any fan base would act this way many could not believe it could be that bad. Sure wish I had this link then. I live and work down here in Hell....I mean Ohio...this baby is going to get printed and put on the desk of a lot of co-workers.
