Brendan Rice Crystal Ball

Submitted by CMHCFB on July 15th, 2019 at 11:56 PM

Sam Webb has joined the others and places his crystal ball with UM for Brendan Rice.  While his recruitment is expected to continue into the season, UM has 100% of the crystal balls

The Wolverines need more depth at corner, running back, tight end and wide receiver. Rice would satisfy that need and after Webb joined a chorus of experts predicting the receiver to Ann Arbor, it is starting to feel like a sure thing — more a matter of when not if.

I didn’t see this posted and the search bar didn’t bring back any hits, if I missed it, neg away.

247 rank 384  Receiver 69   - He would be a solid pickup

Looks as if he will pick Michigan. Only thing that could hurt, would be a 7-5 season.  I hope this is the season Jim can win the B1G and make the playoffs. This would help recruiting the next 2 to 3 years.

This was in a separate 247 article and references his father, Jerry Rice.

One peek at his film and it's easy to see the resemblance in Rice's game to his father — both have quick feet and great hands with ability to separate in coverage.

Rivals has him a little higher, a 4*, 48th nationally

He has had a slew of crystal balls go blue ever since his visit, so one more ball isn't exactly news.  That said, I like his film and would like to see him in this class.

I believe Sam actually gave us 4 new balls today, two 2021 OL and and a 2020 DE whose film I have a hard time getting excited over.

Let me dispel the myth that he is a big plodder type: Brenden ran a 10.75 second 100 meter dash at the Arizona state track finals. I don’t know why the fact that he ran that time does not get publicity anywhere. How does Jerry Rice’s son get underrated by recruiting sites?  I find it baffling.

jerry rice wasn't the fastest, biggest, tallest guy at his position, though he was more than adequate obviously.  his defining quality was his exceptional work ethic combined with dedication to the game which made him from a solid pro receiver into the HOF guy that he is/was.  i don't know much about his son but if he comes with dad's drive and better speed, well, that'd be a great pick up.

I remember watching a 20/20 segment where Jerry was running, sprinting, up mountains to improve his explosiveness.  Guy worked hard or at least had great PR.

Edit: Found a more recent segment of "the Hill"

Jerry Rice was a route artist with great hands.   He could accelerate in and out of his breaks and he toyed with DBs.

It sounds like his son is a bigger and faster version.  Yes please, we need an outside receiver to help replace the Three Amigos.

Let’s fire up some Fred Jackson hype.

But is he bigger and faster ?  We tend to think that the kids are always bigger than the progenitors or people before them.... then I go watch the Fab Five video and come away surprised how small and slow and unathletic our current squad looks relative to them.

Good. We can always use more guys whose name will continually be misspelled (Brenden, not Brendan) during his entire time at Michigan.

Ty Issac and Dylan McCaffery approve of these blue balls.

Unfortunately, from what I've read, Jerry is not close to Brendan.

"Having an iconic father, Brenden soaks up all the advice possible about playing receiver and the game. Unfortunately, their relationship is a distant one.

"I try to focus on the positive. He texts me time and time. We do see each other from time to time and try to grow a better relationship," Brenden said."

I’m expecting quite a bit of Swensoning in this class as the season goes on.

Prolly not to this kid tho since he’s Jerry’s son

I met Jerry Rice at a celebrity golf tournament in San Diego about 15 years ago. Could not have been a nicer more polite guy. I thanked him for taking the time to talk with me and my son. He said the pleasure was all his and seemed genuine about it. Some of the celebrities and sports guys were jerks so Jerry always stands out to me as a cool guy. I hope his son is a chip off the old block in this respect as well.
