Brady versus Belichick Open Thread

Most hype for a regular season game that we've ever seen.

New England fans are everywhere in #12 jerseys.  One dude was shown in a #10 Brady Michigan jersey.  That's cool.

All the attention can't hurt recruiting either.

I'll be watching to see if Uche and Winovich can get to him tonight and what would happen afterwards.

Pulling for Tampa, I want Brady to get more credit for the Pats success than Belichick.

I know the Lats were only gonna take a small moment to recognize the achievement of Brady passing Brees, but that was the most underwhelming celebration ever. Nobody knew he even broke it lol

It was terrible not to give him his moment when he broke the record.  Im in Massachusetts.  The Pats fans still love Brady.  They want the Pats to win but they would have given Brady an ovation  for breaking the record if the powers that be could have had the decency to pause for a minute to recognize him.

Oh, stop it. Brady didn't want the tribute in the middle of his drive.

Why would he? He's busy. Seriously.

Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
Has nothing to do with not respecting Brady.

Anybody saying anything different is just a Patriot hater.

I find it really odd seeing Brady do a commercial for Subway and their “fresh baked bread” when he probably hasn’t eaten anything remotely resembling bread in at least a decade.

I’m sure the money they’re offering him is good, but still, does not seem like a product alignment for him at all.

Brady has seemed off...two chances from the red zone and only 3 points off of it...

Not having Gronk hurts but him and Brate were not even on the same page

Patriots seem to have found something on this TD drive

Brady has his work cut out for him this year, this team is not that great across the board. Maybe it’s the injuries mounting up but they just don’t look very good this year so far.

They’re not as good (so far) as they were towards the end of last year. Absolutely. Some of that has to do with their secondary being decimated by injuries, JPP has been out the last two weeks, Gronk is out tonight and probably for a while, and their RBs have been awful. What’s kept them in all their games is their passing game and Brady has been having Evans, Gronk, AB and Godwin all at his disposal, and each of them always being able to get him yards when they needed it.

They should get better as they start getting guys back from injury, and they still have a fantastic front seven. But their secondary is so bad/thin right that all the pressure the front seven can generate is almost negated, because opposing receivers are just getting open so quickly.

I think Mac Jones is the real deal. People who don’t follow college football don’t realize how high profile and stressful it is to be the quarterback for ‘Bama in the National Championship Game.  He has played in huge high profile games before. The Pats will still probably not win but I’m loving Mac Jones.

I think he will be a solid QB for them as well and the best from his draft class.

That being said, I think his success will be due to the much better situation and overall franchise leadership when compared to the situations that Lawrence/Wilson/Fields and Lance (to a lesser degree) all find themselves in.

The Mac Jones hype train is out of control. He looks ahead of the other rookies in his class, but he also inherited a much better situation than most rookie QBs (the Patriots over/under for wins this year was 9.5). Despite all of that, he still has a lot to prove. He has been able to go through his progressions and get the ball out quickly and accurately under a lot of pressure, but the Patriots offense also has been extremely limited, and Jones has taken few shots downfield. Jones has also had a couple of near miss bad INTs.

One other thing to keep in mind is that Tampa Bay played most of that game without almost their entire starting secondary (Sean Murphy-Bunting and Jamel Dean did not play, and Carlton Davis and Antoine Winfield both left the game with injuries). Richard Sherman was just signed off the street a couple days ago and played almost the whole game. The Tampa secondary should have been easy to take advantage of last night. Stafford lit them up for almost 350 yards and 4 TDs last week before some of these injuries, and I wouldn't be surprised to see a bunch of QBs put up monster numbers against them moving forward if these are long-term injuries.

Patriots have to feel good, but the missed FG and a bunch of PI on Tampa Bay on that one drive is the only reason they have that lead.

What was that call? Can you block someone when they are out of bounds? How can you directly return when the other team is blocking you? I guess I am ignorant to that part of the rules, but its very confusing.
