Brady Hoke at BHCC Tonight
Tonight, Brady Hoke will be at Barton Hills Country Club giving a talk and interacting with the members. I will be in attendance (no I'm not bragging) and was wondering what people would like to hear from Coach Hoke? i.e. what questions, if any, would you like to have him answer?
I'll do my best to talk to him and insert these questions into the conversation.
That is all.

He'll be at the DAC sometime this week or next as well.

Making the rounds.
I know Rich Rod had numerous public appearances, but I do not remember him coming to BHCC before. Is Hoke going to more places to interact and smooth over the Alums?
I don't find it odd, but I do think Dave Brandon is doing everything possible to make this transition as positive and smooth as possible. This is a good thing, it just makes me mad at Bill Martin and sad for RR.
Hillbillies are not permitted on BHCC grounds.

GO BLUE!!
I don't even know what the f-ck purpose your post serves, other than a sorry excuse to post that picture.
He's auditioning for a staff position at Deadspin.

if he's demanding a $50K bathroom redeco before he will move into his office.
Oh no, wait... BH is NOT a total douche.
Damnit, I hate the new input format.
I missed something...

I'd like to know how comfortable Denard and Molk are snapping/taking snaps under center.
I'd also like to hear his thoughts about Denards lack of scrambling last year, and with less designed runs how he's going to get Denard to scramble more, and how okay he is with riding those scrambles as a big part of the offense.
Denard was under center in high school. It shouldn't be an issue.
With Molk, I'm more concerned about him repeating his penalty parade from last year.

Without having the knowledge to talk football specifics with someone like Hoke I would probably ask him if he is seriously considering helmet stickers and then try to discourage him from doing that.

A thousand times over. I couldn't hold an in-depth conversation with Hoke either, but this is a perfect question.
I'm really hoping he doesn't; my hope is that he's more on the Carr model for helmets than the Bo model.
PLEASE!!!

Ask him how many times Denard has to circle the earth counterclockwise in 1 second to turn back time?
Otherwise he'd have done it to fix the last 3 years.
Jesus the dude has a full schedule of commitments. He's like the frickin president with that schedule. I'm exhausted just thinking about putting in the kind of grueling hours these college coaches endure.
Hopefully he doesn't need to go to three cities in two days. Nobody can handle that type of work schedule.
five cities in six days.
I like it, it's worked very well for Doug Marrone at SU at re-establishing recruiting and the fanbase and alumni base in NY state.
Seeing and hearing the coach goes a long way to building relationships with fans, coaches, donors, etc.
Mattison hinted that the players didn't know how to watch film, so mine is: what's been the biggest WTF? moment in learning what the previous staff was doing?
I'd like to ask this, but doubt he'd answer. I know how I would present it, but I still don't think he would get even close to answering this question.
I like the idea tho
With the exception of relating it to the last staff, that's a great question. Relating it to the last staff will leave the question unanswered. Just leave it open: "What's the biggest WTF moment?".
Every transition has one and the answers are usually pretty funny.
Ditto that comment, but on the opposite coast. RR came out to NY in an alumni club sponsored event, and I had to miss it for a work committment. I heard he was great. I would be psyched to see Hoke speak in person.
NY isn't one of Michigan's top recruiting bases. As a new coach, he'd have been better served with spending more focus on his Michigan ties, which were already strained, than by going out of state first.
Those speaking engagements aren't related to recruiting. They're more about meeting and greeting alums and getting them on board. We have a lot of alumni in NY, so Hoke will probably stop by the M-Club there at some point.
They're for a multitude of reasons. You bet that it will have an effect on showing a commitment to MI first over out-of-state, which was a perception inside the state that RR couldn't shake,.
There are certain events that are for recruiting, certain events that are for alumni relations and certain events that are "a multitude of reasons."
The RR speaking engagement in NY was purely for alumni relations which are important. For one, the event was promoted throughthe alumni club of NY - no recruits on that list. Second, from what I am told by the 10+ people I know who attended, it was almost ENTIRELY attended by alum.
While I agree that RR unfortunately was saddles with a perception that he did not have enough of a committment "in-state," going out and meeting alumni in an area that has one of the largest and most prosperous collection of alum is never a bad idea. Also, RR did several speaking engagements in-state before his NY appearance.
In short, I think that there is nothing wrong with a coach coming to speak to groups of out of state alum. And, it is likely that said coach would have (RR) or will (Hoke) combine the out-of-town engagements with recruiting trips so as to most efficiently use his already strained time.
I attended the RichRod speaking engagement in New York and it was open to UMich Alumni Association Members only. Bill Martin spoke, LaMarr Woodley gave a few minute speech and RR did a 20 minute or so spiel...the speeches were capped off with a highlight video and The Victors.
The whole thing was geared to be a RR meet and greet and that's exactly what they did. Gathering alumni support is really important to the university as well as the athletic department and makes a big impact on the fiscal budget.
All that said, I'd love to have Hoke out east as well...
Fire him up by wondering out loud whether Michigan is still an elite program.
Damn. I didn't know about this, or else I would've gone. Hope my dad didn't go without telling me.

Wow. Greatest speech of all time. Brady Hoke was one of the best speakers I have ever seen. Made alumni happy (made fun of certain ones i.e. Hanlon, Betts, Leach).
He made fun of RR a lot! and I mean a lot. He said the spread was a joke, Denard is doing very very well (he used to do it in HS). He said the old staff didn't do well (he tried his hardest to say that they loved M but were not cut out for this job). He basically said watch out (defense is tough but he said linebacker will not be a problem).
Awesome speech, I saw some guy recording so I hope that makes it here.
Go Blue!

Thats classless. What an asshat. If you cant excite the alumni without making fun of the previous coach, who worked his ass off for this school and is more established than Hoke is, then you should just shut up.
maybe I over exaggerated. Just realize that Hoke did an exceptional job speaking. It really impressed me. And I'm an RR fan.
Maybe so. Between your comment about Hoke making fun of RR and then adding Brandon did too, that just seems totally classless. Not mention of RR should have been made, its simply not needed. Not to mention making fun of the man.
Where, other than recruiting, did RichRod's schemes work?

Seems like he wasn't cut out to coach in the big ten.
March 23rd, 2011 at 10:22 AM ^
How about on the football field. Offense was good last year, the best Michigan has had. The defense sucked yes. Either way, I dont give a shit how bad the previous coach was it is classless for the new coach and the AD to make fun of him. There was no need to mention RR during this event, yet they used it as a punchline. They both are assholes for that.
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:12 AM ^
The offense was no good last year against any team with a pulse on defense. You and I both know that was true.
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:52 AM ^
Well did Brady Hoke call the spread a joke, or did he not? In your previous post it seemed like that was a quote.
Brandon and Hoke making fun of RR makes me so fucking angry. It's beyond classless, not to mention idiocy - real Brady, that spread worked really poorly last year... fucking clown.
wow.
March 23rd, 2011 at 11:39 AM ^
I was there too and to say that Hoke and DB made fun of RR "a lot" is not accurate. You definitely "over exaggerated" that.
March 23rd, 2011 at 12:35 PM ^
MGraceBlue calls MichiganStudent out on over exaggerating to drum up controversy!
March 23rd, 2011 at 12:23 AM ^
Dave Brandon made fun of RR a lot as well introducing Hoke too.
Can we just leave the "making fun" part out whether or not it happened.
Thx
You wanna see a thread blow up? Post a new one called "Report on Hoke's appearance at BHCC" or something like that. Then tell everyone what you saw and heard. I'd be willing to bet it blows through 200 comments before midnight. Lots of potentially combustible discussion points would definitely grow from it.
If true, completely disappointing, and completely classless.
I would expect better from "Michigan Men".
