Bowling Green Basketball looks good on paper

Submitted by HireWayne on November 24th, 2020 at 7:30 PM

Bought a Lindy's college basketball preview magazine.

Bowling Green is predicted to win the MAC, 21-10 (12-6) last year, 3 returning starters.

Justin Turner 6'4 guard scored 18.8 ppg.

Got some bigs too...2 6'10 guys I but don't know how much they play.

Coach, Michael Huger, has been there for 5 years.  88-75 record.

Seems like an worthy adversary.

Seems like Juwan is going away from scheduling the cupcakes ranked in the 300s to focusing more on the cupcakes ranked in the 100s.  Probably won't have much of an impact this year but will be good for tournament seeding going forward.

Good point. Non-con basketball scheduling is one of the prime examples of college sports being expensive because schools choose to make them expensive. Off the top of my head, I can think of the following list of D1 basketball schools who could reasonably bus to Michigan (5 hours or less).

EMU

UofD

Oakland

Toledo

Bowling Green

CMU

WMU

Akron

Kent State

Ohio

Cincinnati

Xavier

Dayton

Butler

IUPUI

IUPFW

Notre Dame

DePaul

UIC

Chicago State

Should be a competitive game. Turner will be a touch match up because of his combination of size and explosiveness.

We're thin upfront and will need to rely heavily on a freshman five to stay out of foul trouble and maintain the endurance to stay on the court.

Could see Michigan struggling in this one, because of the lack of depth of front along with the difficult roster match up despite the fact Michigan will have the more talented team

They brought 4 primary players back from last year. Turner is good. He will be a load to stop with his size against our guards.  Plowden is athletic down low. Number 21 can shoot in a pick and pop 3 game. Trey Diggs is similar to Livers in his game. This will be a competitive game.

This might be the right trial test for him for sure. I'm not sure Brooks will be able to check Turner with his size. They lost their pg from last year so I have no idea what that position will look like for them. I think Franz can hang with Diggs and Livers with Plowden. Number 21 picks and pops for 3 a lot so this might  be one of those nights where Johns is needed more.

Game definitely makes me nervous. I think we may get a rude awakening early in the season. Some experience back but lots of new players to work in the rotation. I think Michigan will struggle in this game.

I think any first game should be a little nerve wracking. Thing is, they don't have any more returning contributors than we do. This is a game Michigan should win but it will not be a cakewalk. They have the ones I listed above but Michigan has Livers, Brooks, Davis, Wagner, etc. Also, Smith and Brown have a lot of experience playing as well.

Wouldn’t at all be surprised to see Michigan struggle in this one. COVID-impacted off-season, loss of a couple regular starters and the guy you facilitated your entire offense through (Simpson) going against a mid-major projected to win its own conference with most of its starters coming back. First game jitters do exist.

I’d love to be wrong but I could see Michigan not covering the spread tonight.

It's not often when both my schools play it's competitive lol. BG should be quite good this year. I remember when I was going after my undergrad freshman year at BG when they beat UM in basketball. They had a kick ass team that year. I'm pretty sure UM was terrible at the same time.

Don't think it will go that way today but BG should provide a worthy adversary today.
