I get the feeling that good things are going to happen.  We have the talent and now we have the coaching and the intensity that I always felt was sorely lacking under Hoke.

When RR got here we heard a lot of the same stuff - remember how they'd run everywhere in practice...remember how they'd run off the field at the end of the quarter? Demonstrating incredible conditioning?    That was all on the super awesome conditiong program - no one was going to wear out on our team ever.  Then the season happened and our asses were kicked all over the field.

It's the normal offseason hype mixed in with a guy who was probably not ready for the job under Hoke's regime (like a lot of people) and we are now moving into an era that is on par with a lot of the top programs.  It is not so much state of the art - just that we've moved from behind the curve to on the curve.  But yes we've heard so much of this before.  At least with Harbaugh I know he will keep pushing until he gets it right.

Agreed...there seemed to be a major lack of leadership the last two years. I got the sense that even as a Tr. Frosh Jabrill was standing out as a leader...and that the upperclassmen were not. Hence the lack of captains coming out of camp.

Hoke went with "Leadership by committee" because that's what the players wanted.  Each class was represented by a committee of peers and that collective committee of 16 or so players was the leadership council.  This was all explained last summer and reported right here on this very blog site.

There were no captains coming out of camp because the collective said nobody should be recognized as superior to the others, every player was just as important as the next.  There would be no entitlement.  There wouldn't be many wins either, so the adage still holds, you can't have your cake and eat it too.

Hopefully Coach Harbaugh has pruned out the collectivst psycho-babble that was so prevalent on the team and replaced it four square with his embracement of meritocracy.  We can only hope.

"Coach Durkin might have an aneurysm some time."

Honestly I hope we get back to the days of our coaches chewing the hell out of the refs. We know Harbaugh will do it, but Durkin seems like a good candidate too. Show the kids the fire.

I was a interested to hear Sam and JUB talking on WTKA on Friday about the big difference is that there isn't was much standing around under Harbuagh as there was under Hoke. That the players actually are all practicing basically all the Time

I'm sure some pointed it out because I was one of them - and there were others. I was hesitant because I'd never been to a Hoke practice. But watching on film - I always assumed those "Michigan Man" drills and other things were staged for the camera. Then as the lack of development became obvious - last year, I think - I began to get a sickening feeling that those two-people-moving-at-at-time practices weren't staged, that that was actually how Hoke ran a practice.

Sometimes the little things do add up -- the tempo, the attention to details, the tracking of competitive progress, the drumbeat for merit and against entitlement.

Yes, the real proof will be in the way the teams plays and wins this fall.  A given.

But there's a difference with Harbaugh -- (1) his intensity appears to be genuine; (2) he surrounds himself with other hyper-achievers like himself; (3) the message seems consistent, which means it will work its way into every corner and crevice; and (4) they are taking a wrecking ball to the notion of seniority.  Plus -- (5) Harbaugh has had true success at every level, so there's a method to his madness.

I've made a conscious decision to totally buy into every tiny shred of boilerplate and coach speak coming out of spring and fall practice this year. No grain o' salt for turtleboy this year. I'm on an all fluff diet, it's part of my 2015 resolution.

Is the freaking MAN! He's gathered some other high intensity type of coaches to up the overall culture of urgency for the players. There is simply no better news for Michigan than everything that's coming out of camp right now. We've been disappointed for the past 8 years, but I cannot help but get my hopes up for what we're going to see in September. I think he's going to make a splash early. We may not win the east or the conference, but we're not getting blown out of any games...against any team. Period.
