Blake Corum: "I feel like I have all that back."

Submitted by Ezekiels Creatures on December 27th, 2021 at 3:43 PM

“Personally, I feel great,” Corum said Monday morning. “I feel like my ankle is finally back. I feel like I have my cutting ability, my speed and my top-end speed, my burst. I feel like I have all that back.”

If he would have had that top end speed back against Ohio St that long run would have been a TD.

Starting at 2:54 of this video:

Never underestimate someone who's come up through hard circumstances.

If this isnt the best backfield in the country Im not sure what is. When your 3rd stringer is throwing 50 yard dimes what else do you need. Fully operational Corum? Yes please!

Yep.  Edwards is a special talent indeed.
He looks like an NFL ready slot receiver already, which is absurd given that his position is that of an all purpose back.

Corum is a dimension we haven’t had since I could remember…he looks a lot like JK Dobbins in his prime at OSU.

Haskins is an absolute monster power back.  His improvement in patience and lateral side steps and vision this year are incredible.  He’s much more elusive, athletic and fast than most realize because his best attribute always seems to be powering out an extra 3 yards at the end of each run.

Mike Hart has done a great job with this group this year, and specifically Haskins’ improvement in patience and vision look to be very much a product of Hart coaching.

For me the biggest revelation with Haskins is, as you said, his vision and patience. I don't remember the last back that we had who saw gaps and hit them with speed or could slow down and wait for the gap to open.  Having an o-line that can block is a huge part of it. Top it off with consistent yards after contact and he is one of my favorite players a in while.

Hurdling fools helps too.

He has insane hands for an APB as well.  One of the 1 handed grabs he made he effortlessly tucked the ball into his arm and turned up field.  He is a legit total package in terms of flexibility he can add for an offense.  We are definitely spoiled with this running back stable!

OK....race with JJ.  :-)  Great to hear though!

BTW, reading the last quote made me almost shed a tear.  He has a HELLUVA Mom, thank you Ms. Corum for bringing him up the way that you did and giving him a sense of purpose about life and the ability to help others.  This has nothing to do with him as a football player, but as a person and this is Awesome!

Don't have time to look it up here, but even with Blake not 100%, he said in one of the interviews either immediately after the game or the next couple of days that when he saw that JJ was close he slowed down so that JJ could get a block.  I know JJ is  fast, but it sounds like even hobbled Blake was faster.

When you go back and watch the highlight of the TD run against Washington, he had some major juice that just wasn't there for the Iowa td run.  I was hoping he has that burst back for this game as it will be needed.

The (entirely warranted) spotlight on Haskins’ talent and achievements this season have overshadowed what a special player Corum is. I believe when he is done those two will share the “best back since Hart” crown

Is it a hot take to say that Haskins is a better back than Hart? Haskins has a similar knack for holding onto the ball. Both backs were great at not going down behind the line. I think Haskins is probably a bit more athletic and has more power. Production and yards per carry are fairly similar, with Hart getting more volume.

Not leaps and bounds better or anything, but I can’t say without a doubt I’d prefer to have Hart over Haskins, that’s for sure.

This is ALL great, love it!

Also, some Michigan Insider content posted on YouTube if y’all still need more things to watch. DG and Gorgeous Borges segment posted about 50 minutes ago. That’s what I’m watching next (don’t know how to embed videos). And, Ray & Bedford segment posted.

I have to hand it to you, EC.  The content you've been providing, with good summaries and embedded links, has been very good.  You are a valued member of this community, IMHO.  Top notch, top notch!  Keep it up!

Regarding the YouTube video:

It may be just me.   But I greatly prefer “Touchdown. Michigan” to “Touchdown Wolverines.”  Just sounds better.
