Bert Bielema plans Dallas Cowboys and Big Ten Satellite Camps
Arkansas coach Bret Bielema already is making plans to do some “guest coaching.”
He recently joined ESPN’s “Championship Drive” podcast to talk about his potential summer plans.
“If these satellite camps go through, I’ve been in discussion with two Big Ten teams. I’ve been in discussion with teams in Florida and Texas, as well as the (Dallas) Cowboys,” Bielema said. “If this thing goes through, we’re going to do an exclusive camp right there with the Cowboys unique to us that no one else in the SEC will be able to do. That’s going to be a huge advantage.
“I’m talking about going east with a Big Ten team I’ve got a relationship with. If that pans out, some really good things could open the door.”

Guess he is leaning on the Jerry Jones/Arkansas connection for the Cowboys. Harbaugh will surely have one with the Baltimore Ravens if he wants an arms race.
Big Ten team east of Arkansas? (Guess he wasn't a geography major) Rutgers for sure b/c Ash was poached from his Ark staff after he took him from Wisky. Any other guesses for the other one?
Guess Harbaugh is winning this round of the Battle!!!
EDIT: I'm drunk and angry about missing the spring game. Negate my initial comment...
well, there's a place near Rutgers called "Stuff Yer Face". I'm assuming that will be on his itinerary.

I'll negate your opinions forever.
One thing for sure: it won't be Wiscy.
Bert discovered donuts with bacon in B1G country and felt the need for a visit.

Better yet, why doesn't she just come and he can stay at home....
I thought the SEC couldn't do satellite camps and that was always their beef?
Well, yeah, I think SEC coaches - if they were honest with themselves - probably are a little peeved at their own conference, but what is important here is that the B1G may have made a mistake in letting Bielema know that they didn't understand "this beef". As we know, Bielema is all too happy to help you understand "this beef" if you do not - he only requires some A-1 and time.
Good for him. Let's do this.
And I don't get the geography major comment--there are a number of Big Ten teams east of Arkansas, no?
You are right, heck, Bert gets distracted while even walking....
SEC: Satellite camps are bad and morally wrong. Unless we're doing them.

Bert is a bastard for not publicly thanking Jim for the idea. His lard ass would have never thought of doing this had it not been for the Jim blazing the way for this type of thing.
I doubt about "exclusive with cowboys". Why will other SEC schools enrich Jerry Jones by playing in kickoff classic or neutral site games, if he has exclusive with Arkansas?

Bielema is an Iowa alum and got his start in coaching under Fry and Ferentz. Iowa is probably my best guess followed by Rutgers.
Not sure this is a great strategy for SEC teams, but it might be for a team like Arkansas that doesn't have a big in-state talent base. But I would assume satellite camps in Texas, Louisiana, Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee (Memphis) would be much more fruitful for them than a camp in Chicago or New Jersey.
Right now SEC & ACC can't by conference rule. But the assumption is that if their proposal to ban satellite camps does not get passed by the NCAA, those conferences will repeal their rule. Bielema is making a contingency plan for that scenario.
I know he is an alum, but does he have a better chance of winning at Iowa than he did at Wisconsin? And for all the flak Ferentz gets, he has been reasonably successful at a place that is much harder to win at than it was under Hayden Fry. Expectations are still pretty high at Iowa, and I am not sure it is something Bielema would jump at unless he was trying to escape a firing posse at Arkansas.
Could he win a national title at Iowa? Probably not, but he's not winning a national title at Arkansas nor is he winning the SEC West. In theory, he could dominate the B1G West. It also seems that Iowa has more institutional support than Wisconsin who routinely loses top assistants because Alvarez is cheap. Ferentz remains one of the highest paid coaches in the country. You factor in that he's an alum and I could see him taking the job if offered.
As far as Arkansas vs. Iowa, they are pretty similar jobs. Neither is a so called destination job. When he left Wisconsin for Arkansas, it was widely considered a step down by most people. Within the SEC, Arkansas is in the bottom tier of jobs. Within the B1G, Iowa is in the upper tier of jobs. As far as quality of life, I have to imagine living in Iowa City is superior to living in Fayetteville. (Disclaimer: I've never been to either). Fayetteville has the weather advantage but it's in the deep South. Bielema is from western Illinois.
yes but we didn't start it
Funny how those SEC bitchers are jumping on the bandwagon ain't it? Can we expect SECommish Stinky to come out and castigate Bert over this? Somehow I don't think so....
One of those big ten teams is MSU seeing that he wanted to do lunch (i.e. an all-you-can-eat buffet) with Mike Dantonio a while back.
Bert's just gotta copy what the cool guy does.
This makes it look like the SEC/ACC's case is falling apart and he knows it and wants to get a jump on his bretheren. Hell they all know it...he's just trying to grab the headlines before someone else does.
I mean, what exactly is their beef with Sat Camps? What exactly are they going to say to the NCAA? As weak as their springbreak practice bitch is..they at least have a narrative -- 'what about the children'. In this case...I've seen nothing other than...'we can't do it, so you can't do it'.
In his defense, he was the only SEC coach to favor (at least publicly) satellite camps. He actually praised Harbaugh for doing so. His issue was practicing during Spring break.
