Bennett Warren: 2024 4 star offensive tackle out of Texas is now getting crystal ball picks to TN
We’ve led for this guy for a long time. Offensive line filled up fast for Michigan. The last two we originally led for both went to TN out of Texas. Not a huge need but losing Max Anderson and Bennett Warren near the finish line still stings a little. They also got Boo Carter over us as well, although he is from TN. They must still have several of those Pruitt bags left over.
Good luck to the young man. Michigan has a very nice OL class. Would be great to get Aaron Scott today!
That would be great to land him but I’m not holding my breath. This class looked to be great early on but tapered to really good. If we can utilize the portal like this past offseason then all will be good. Need corners!
michigan fans: perpetually unsatisfied since 1879
Ha, that’s the beauty of fandom…everywhere.
Also it’s reasonable to expect slight recruiting bumps after consecutive conference rings. They didn’t see it last year, this year they did.
Michigan will always recruit well and field competent teams under Harbaugh. They will not however surpass recruiting of teams like OSU. They never have, other than odd year here or there.
Fans expecting top 3 classes filled with consensus 5 stars should try to reset those expectations.
Sure, cross your fingers for hyped out-of-state 1st round WR’s or CB’s every other year (as I do) - just recognize it’s not 1998
You have to be better than 2 consecutive wins to see recruiting bumps, plus when the HC interviews every offseason it’s tough…
When is Scott announcing?
Supposedly 42 minutes ago, but can’t find anything.
I had saw 6:30 tonight.
Thanks. 24/7 said noon.
"I had saw..."
The Michigan difference?
*deference
I don't really get too concerned over a handful of recruits -for or against Michigan. It's the overall quality of the class that matters the most.
To be fair, Uini was also from Texas and didn't go to Tennessee.
I forgot about him. Knew we weren’t gonna get them all but I thought we would land one of those three.
Something happened with recruiting after the Chiles thing. Had a bunch of momentum and since that there’s been a lot of “2nd place finishes”
What do you think happened?
Well, Boo Carter, Max Anderson and Bennett Warren(assuming picks are correct) went to UT, Uini went to Georgia, Chiles to Florida, Nichols to UK, Robinson is trending UK and Grimsley to Alabama.
There’s a pattern here somewhere! If only I could put my finger on it…
Seriously, the only non SEC losses have been Shipp to home state NC and a couple of in state locks to Ohio St.
Robinson is trending UK
i mean you can count that as a recruiting/SEC thing if you want, but I’d say Michigan deciding they’re not waiting on Robinson and taking 4 EDGE commits has quite a bit to do with that as well.
That’s what happens when the class is mostly full and you’re just swinging at the crème de la crème of uncommitted players. Way more misses than hits.
since Chiles the edge filled up with a bunch of four stars, so it’s not like all momentum was lost or something.
we will be okay with a really really good class even if it falls short of historically elite.
What happened, most likely, is that some of these would-be recruits saw both Michigan's deep depth-chart and maybe more NIL $ elsewhere and made business decisions. It's not as if something about M's O line/recruiters went sour. It's not that mysterious.
If you think we're deeper than bama and Georgia.. C'mon..
Definitely not deep at corner and we can’t seem to land any of those
CB is my biggest concern right now. Need to probably find one in the Portal if Scott isn't Blue later today
OV season is when the NIL offers happen
I think it's just a timing thing. We closed early on the guys who had us #1 and the rest of the guys were uphill battles that we lost. Nothing changed. Expectations were just too high after early returns.
I think our class filling up and others teams continue to hone their NIL are definitely factors
These guys all hate cheeseburgers.
This is all the fault of whoever called him Warren Bennett in the last post title.
Warren Bennet, IMO.
I’m blaming Warde.
Who else is the driving force in NIL (or lack thereof)?
First Joe Milton, now this. /s
First Cade, now this.
Our chances of signing a 40 man class continues to diminish.
Also: Pruitt bags are now legal so everyone can get some McCash. It’s all in how heavy you make the bag.
Pruitt bags = legal.
Happy Meals = illegal if you go cheeseburger. Nuggets, TBD.
Enticements disguised as a NIL deal.
How many NIL deals are actually legit?
Shit show.
Money laundering 101.
I’m guessing Tennessee has a path to earlier playing time. With the amount of depth Michigan has it’s likely that unless you’re coming in as a bona fide 5 star that already has an NFL size and frame, you’re not going to have much meaningful playing time at Michigan for your first year or two.
You’ll get on the field for mop up duty, but at this rate it seems like guys aren’t getting really getting a chance to start until their third year in. Maybe Tennessee has a more immediate path right now?
Or perhaps he just like Tennessee better?
Exactly right about the playing time. Many times a school (mostly fans) will brag about beating another school for a top recruit but don't really recognize the real reason that they're weak at that position and provides a recruit with a far better chance of playing early
What about Warren bennett? I heard he's a lock for Michigan.
Don't want mercenaries and will live with the results. Didn't respect the bought Yankees or Red Wings team for the same reason since blatant competitive advantage isn't a badge of honor or better coaching as St. Nick implies.
Just my personal view which also didn't want the CF playoffs for the coming reasons of using up young amateur athletes health for our jollies. Also it has diluted other Bowl games and widened the haves to have nots. I do see that NIL was always coming and the one time transfer portal as positives for athletes and manageable for teams.
Not totally get off my lawn guy just didn't mind the consensus driven rankings and arrival at number 1. Yes, even despite the 1997/8 Nebraska issue because it was self evident.

I don't know, I sure as hell appreciated those Red Wings teams.
It'd be beautiful if all these recruits had a mindset and work ethic like Blake Corum, but unfortunately some still require a signing bonus.
I dunno man, these kids finally have a chance to earn life-changing money EARLY in their playing career. If someone offers them 100~200K at 18yo, id say absolutely take it. You can put that in S&P500 index fund and protect your future instead of graduating with 50k+ debt (like me lol). Remember Jake Butt, you career can be over before you get any pro chances no matter how talented you are. Take that bag and protect your future imo.
it's wild to me that there are still people begrudging kids for trying to get paid. everybody else is making a zillion dollars off of their labor. the idea that they should go to your favorite school instead of some other place that they also like that is offering them life changing money is bonkers. and frankly impugning a kid's work ethic b/c he's not going to your school is embarrassing.

I don't care if they get filthy rich playing football. But I think it's a bad idea for multiple reasons that colleges, particularly state schools, have basically joined the entertainment industry. (And yes I know this has been developing over decades.)
Don't know the details about how this stuff works, but I believe some European countries have a club system for soccer that has component school programs to teach young players, and it's completely separate from universities. Would strongly prefer something like that here, although at this late stage of NCAAf professionalization I think it's a pipe dream.
Yep....the big money sports do not belong underneath a College umbrella. Its basically a sham that is becoming more and more obvious as the sports become more and more like their professional counterparts.
True, but the kids could also come in and never play a snap.
I didn't mean to attack any individual recruit and you're right, their longterm financial security is assured, but the on/off-field production is not guaranteed.
