"You'll never get hot if you don't know the cold."

The SEC, Big 12 and Pac10 can compete with one another for the warm weather players. This video tells me Michigan is the place for any talented ball player from the upper midwest and northeast. We've got the best facilities, best attitude and most success of any cold weather team.

It was a bit ridiculous at times, wasn't it?  The thing that got me was the 'manly banter' between the announcers.  By game 3, it left behind the good-natured ribbing and entered that uncomfortable area where we are left to wonder whether a barb is intended as a genuine insult or not.

As a fair skinned guy who just came back from a Florida vacation, I wonder if the cloudy Michigan weather is a recruiting advantage for gingers or other people who hate the oppressive heat of the south.   Maybe those people self-select out of baseball because of the whole being outside thing.

needs to edit it and at the end, add something like

"This is where that hard work in the cold weather can take you" then show a picture of Omaha then the dog pile after beating the #1 team in the country.  Maybe some Bruins fans crying, tearing their clothes and gnashing their teeth.

Or the wolverine carrying a goat head.

I shouldn't work in marketing ....

Wow! That was phenomenal. It fired me up and I hate cold weather. I understand the recruiting advantages of warm weather states. But, if I were a baseball recruit, I'd be lining up Michigan for a visit. It was THAT effective.

Still, all I can think of is: "Man, catching that ball in January has gotta hurt."

I'm a wuss.

Nonetheless, I did go to Michigan over more southern schools.

I remember, I dropped a textbook on my foot once in January.  It hurt like hell, but I toughed it out.

Our first month of baseball practice in HS was in our school's rubber gym to avoid the 30 degree weather. First 4 or 4 double headers were in 40 degree weather. The pain in my hands from hitting a ball with a metal/composite bat was awful. Was a catcher too so my hands were constantly rattling.

We had 2 gyms and the one we practiced in had a rubber floor. Which was good and bad. Good because we could use real baseballs without possibly damaging the floor, and awful because the 2nd bounce of a grounded picked up speed as the ball rotated. If you didn't get the ball off the first hop, the second one would send it into your shin at twice the speed.

Am I the only one that sees a "Pure Michigan" spoof video being inspired by this?

"Why play baseball in FL, TX or some other warm climate?  Embrace the challenge of running with frozen feet, catching with frozen fingers, pitching while your hand is numb.....  Pure Michigan"

Speaking of recruiting - incoming freshman pitcher Colin Czajkowski was not selected in the MLB draft ensuring he'll be a Wolverine.

The Freep (deal with it) had an interesting article on his saga through the draft last week. Sounds like he and his family had set a signing bonus threshold that, if met, would make it worth it to turn pro and skip school. Unfortunately for him/fortunately for us, nobody took the bait and Michigan will get a kick-ass pitcher next year.

The 6'4" lefty was named the Gatorade Michigan HS Player of the year. He's currently 11-0 this senior season with a 0.23 ERA (Career 23-1, 0.67) as Woodhaven HS continues through the playoffs.

In the spirit of credit where credit is due, I want to make sure Warde Manuel gets his here. Two years ago, Bakich was the top target of both Stanford and South Carolina for their baseball head jobs (two programs with significant advantages over Michigan, and S. Carolina actually won two national titles at the start of the decade). Warde did what he had to do to keep Bakich, and the result is what we see now.

I will admit to being one of the guys that expressed some concern over the basketball hire because Warde generally keeps a low profile, so we didn't have a lot to go on about what he would look for.  I think hiring JH was a strong move!  But it comes on top of a bunch of lower tier program coach hires he's made at Michigan - tennis, lacrosse, and baseball.  WD can detail them better than I ever could, but the fact is that Warde has excelled at hiring - and retaining - very good coaches.

To top it off, he was a guest on Harbaugh's podcast last week.  He was light, fun, and engaging, without being a droll administrator and parroting the company line at each step.  It's clear that he gets along well with his various department heads and coaches.  I recommend listening to it...  Also had Chris Hutchinson on as a guest.

Here's a link to the UM 2019 baseball recruiting class that works (the preceding link is to state of Michigan players, not UM):

https://www.perfectgame.org/College/CollegeCommitments.aspx

You have to select the college from the university box.

Unfortunately you need to have a subscription to see the player ranking.

Couldn't find a free link to player rankings.
