Northwestern was up 28-10 before Persa went down. The best team doesn't always win. I'm factoring in the addition of Persa to my rankings. With Persa, Northwestern continues onto to win that game.

Rankings 2-6 are all very close, and I will put MSU at the top of the "2nd tier" until someone knocks them off.

Great teams don't have offenses ranked 62 in total offense and scoring offense at 67. Hell, their rushing offense is ranked 81, great teams don't have mediocre to below average offenses. MSU is a team with a good defense and average/below average offense. There are no great teams in the Big Ten outside Wisconsin.

Yea so statiscally MSU has the number 1 defense in college football. They are good probably the best defense in the big ten, but I saw them play and they are not the best defense in the country or even close. OSU was more a victim of the worst play calling I've ever seen and a freshman QB than they where a victim of a great MSU defense.

Ohio did nothing to even try to counter the blitzes and pressure ( screens, draws or even shorter routes). When it became obvious to me that MSU had Millers cadence/ snap count down ( the defensive linemen in the backfield the second the ball was snapped) they did absolutely nothing. They took out miller for Bauserman , but had their receivers running 15 - 20 yard patterns when they knew, MSU was pinning their ears back and blitzing almost every down. Miami did just about the same thing to OSU, does that make Miami a top defense?

They would have won that game yesterday.

Honestly, the respect that people are giving MSU is ridiculous.

Are you people Matt Millen fans? Because he was the one speaking in breathtaking tones about how Sparty's victory over the worst OSU team (and really only because of the offense) was a "program building", "season defining" win.

They are a good team.

They are nothing special.

Once they face a real team (just remember when they played Iowa and Alabama last year) they will get destroyed.

I just hope we're at that point in two weeks time.

If OSU had an ave QB, they would probably be competing for 2nd in the B1G with Nebraska.  OSU still has a pretty damn good D.  MSU deserves a lot of the credit being given them.  Having seen them in the ND and OSU game, they are a very good defense.  I don't think they'll be the #1 by the end of the year, but I really wouldn't be surprised if they were top 15.  The D is very fundementally sound and plays agressive.  They also have good defensive schemes.  I would put them right up there with UM, Neb, and Ill in the B1G right now.

As an aside, I agree with the above, above poster that MSU was timing the snap count.  They've been doing the same thing to us the past two years.  I really hope we address this before we play them.

I think Braxton miller has the physical gifts, but wow, he is way further behind the curve in the brains department.  Either that or he just can't handle big time game pressure, in which case he's screwed for the long term.  He just looked lost and worst, indecisive.  If MSU sent any other extra pass rusher, he would clam and not know what to do.  A lot of their problems fall on the coaches and play calling for putting him in the position to even have to make such decisions.  They should have gone to a short game a lot quicker (they never actually did).

Easy to look lost as a QB when your receivers aren't open.  The biggest difference between Pryor and Miller as freshmen is that Pryor had Beanie Wells to hand off to, along with a very good offensive line and several future NFL draft picks at WR.  Miller doesn't have any of that right now.  He, like Fickell, has been thrown into a hopeless situation.  The big test will be in the next two games, as they travel to both Nebraska and Illinois, but gain Posey, Herron, and Adams.  I think they might beat Illinois with those three back; if they don't, they're going to go 0-4 in October, and might miss bowl season.

Oregon , Oklahoma state , Wisconsin and  oklahoma are some of th best offenses in college football

LSU's defense seems to be light years better than any other defense in college Alabamas is probably 2nd. It does'nt matter what the statistics say the level of competition these 2 defenses have face is far beyond what MSU has seen in rainbows n unicorns U

If Miami was able to shut down teams like that in their other 3 games, then yes. Unfortunately for your argument, they have not. I fully agree OSU's offense is inept, but I'm reluctant to put MSU in the middle of the pack in the Big 10 until  1.) They lose a conference game, and 2.) We beat them (which I fully expect us to do).

Here's a fun comment trick that I think applies a lot here: if you shift-enter, you only go down 1 space, as opposed to the default double space.
