I'm looking forward to November 12th when Wisconsin travels to Minnesota. That should be quite the blowout at the very least.
October 2nd, 2011 at 8:09 PM ^
Especially since Wisconsin isn't so nice and likes to run up the score... Feel bad for the Gophers already.
October 2nd, 2011 at 8:34 PM ^
in a few weeks it will be LOL when Wisconsin runs the score up on a awful OSU team!
October 2nd, 2011 at 8:38 PM ^
Wisconsin- 20/20
Nebraska and Michigan 17.5/20
Illinois 16.5/20
Michigan State 15.5/20

Minnesota- 9/20 (heh heh)
October 2nd, 2011 at 8:57 PM ^
how bad does a team have to be to get an 8.5 or worse from you?
October 2nd, 2011 at 9:07 PM ^
If we go by letter grades Purdue and Minnesota would both get F's.
October 2nd, 2011 at 9:47 PM ^
I wouldn't say they like to run it up on teams like Minnesota, but that they like to run and run.
And if you can't stop what you know is coming...the score goes up.
(We know that too well).

October 2nd, 2011 at 10:08 PM ^
you've got penn state above osu?? i'm not trying to argue that osu is good, but umm... ya.
October 2nd, 2011 at 10:21 PM ^
I have them right next to each other, and PSU has played better. They lost by sixteen to an Alabama team that might very well with the SEC this year (OSU lost by to a mediocre Miami team by 18), they have a conference win, which OSU doesn't have, and I think they look better.
October 3rd, 2011 at 12:50 PM ^
i took the tiers to mean that there was a large gap between them.
still, both teams are offensively inept. i expect a score of 2-3 when they play. any td's will likely be scored by the defense.
October 3rd, 2011 at 9:36 PM ^
would be an upgrade at QB for the Buckeyes.

know that Ilinois just beat Northwestern right?
October 2nd, 2011 at 7:39 PM ^
Northwestern was up 28-10 before Persa went down. The best team doesn't always win. I'm factoring in the addition of Persa to my rankings. With Persa, Northwestern continues onto to win that game.
October 3rd, 2011 at 9:22 PM ^

Northwestern is definitely better than Illinois.
October 2nd, 2011 at 9:24 PM ^
'that doesn't make Illinois the better team'
Uh, it kinda does. Especially given the small sample size etc...

This isn't RCMB, you're not funny or clever for using the dollar sign instead of an S, and even less so because you followed it up with a "see what i did there???"

Rankings 2-6 are all very close, and I will put MSU at the top of the "2nd tier" until someone knocks them off.
October 2nd, 2011 at 7:32 PM ^
michigan state over Nebraska and us? Notre Dame knocked them 'off'.
October 2nd, 2011 at 7:45 PM ^
Michigan State is a great team this year. People need to start realizing that. I do think Nebraska is better, but Michigan State will beat us in two weeks.

way to have a positive outlook , I hope you dont look at life so grimly.
October 2nd, 2011 at 8:11 PM ^
Great teams don't have offenses ranked 62 in total offense and scoring offense at 67. Hell, their rushing offense is ranked 81, great teams don't have mediocre to below average offenses. MSU is a team with a good defense and average/below average offense. There are no great teams in the Big Ten outside Wisconsin.
October 2nd, 2011 at 7:48 PM ^
also has a loss... so what's your point? MSU is undefeated in the B1G and just won at OSU. They have the #1 ranked Defense in the country, and were Co-Big 10 Champs last year. Excuse me for giving them some respect.
October 2nd, 2011 at 8:05 PM ^
Yea so statiscally MSU has the number 1 defense in college football. They are good probably the best defense in the big ten, but I saw them play and they are not the best defense in the country or even close. OSU was more a victim of the worst play calling I've ever seen and a freshman QB than they where a victim of a great MSU defense.
Ohio did nothing to even try to counter the blitzes and pressure ( screens, draws or even shorter routes). When it became obvious to me that MSU had Millers cadence/ snap count down ( the defensive linemen in the backfield the second the ball was snapped) they did absolutely nothing. They took out miller for Bauserman , but had their receivers running 15 - 20 yard patterns when they knew, MSU was pinning their ears back and blitzing almost every down. Miami did just about the same thing to OSU, does that make Miami a top defense?
October 2nd, 2011 at 8:11 PM ^
They would have won that game yesterday.
Honestly, the respect that people are giving MSU is ridiculous.
Are you people Matt Millen fans? Because he was the one speaking in breathtaking tones about how Sparty's victory over the worst OSU team (and really only because of the offense) was a "program building", "season defining" win.
They are a good team.
They are nothing special.
Once they face a real team (just remember when they played Iowa and Alabama last year) they will get destroyed.
I just hope we're at that point in two weeks time.
October 2nd, 2011 at 8:35 PM ^
If OSU had an ave QB, they would probably be competing for 2nd in the B1G with Nebraska. OSU still has a pretty damn good D. MSU deserves a lot of the credit being given them. Having seen them in the ND and OSU game, they are a very good defense. I don't think they'll be the #1 by the end of the year, but I really wouldn't be surprised if they were top 15. The D is very fundementally sound and plays agressive. They also have good defensive schemes. I would put them right up there with UM, Neb, and Ill in the B1G right now.
As an aside, I agree with the above, above poster that MSU was timing the snap count. They've been doing the same thing to us the past two years. I really hope we address this before we play them.
October 2nd, 2011 at 8:41 PM ^
a. Braxton Miller is just bad because he's a freshman or if he just sucks
b. is Miller athletic at all? because i didn't see any athleticism yesterday
c. he knows how to throw a football
d. if steven threet was better than him
October 2nd, 2011 at 8:50 PM ^
I think Braxton miller has the physical gifts, but wow, he is way further behind the curve in the brains department. Either that or he just can't handle big time game pressure, in which case he's screwed for the long term. He just looked lost and worst, indecisive. If MSU sent any other extra pass rusher, he would clam and not know what to do. A lot of their problems fall on the coaches and play calling for putting him in the position to even have to make such decisions. They should have gone to a short game a lot quicker (they never actually did).
October 2nd, 2011 at 9:26 PM ^
Easy to look lost as a QB when your receivers aren't open. The biggest difference between Pryor and Miller as freshmen is that Pryor had Beanie Wells to hand off to, along with a very good offensive line and several future NFL draft picks at WR. Miller doesn't have any of that right now. He, like Fickell, has been thrown into a hopeless situation. The big test will be in the next two games, as they travel to both Nebraska and Illinois, but gain Posey, Herron, and Adams. I think they might beat Illinois with those three back; if they don't, they're going to go 0-4 in October, and might miss bowl season.

Doesn't take brains to attend Ohio...one word...katzenmoyer
October 3rd, 2011 at 2:19 AM ^
Oregon , Oklahoma state , Wisconsin and oklahoma are some of th best offenses in college football
LSU's defense seems to be light years better than any other defense in college Alabamas is probably 2nd. It does'nt matter what the statistics say the level of competition these 2 defenses have face is far beyond what MSU has seen in rainbows n unicorns U
October 2nd, 2011 at 8:14 PM ^
If Miami was able to shut down teams like that in their other 3 games, then yes. Unfortunately for your argument, they have not. I fully agree OSU's offense is inept, but I'm reluctant to put MSU in the middle of the pack in the Big 10 until 1.) They lose a conference game, and 2.) We beat them (which I fully expect us to do).

October 2nd, 2011 at 8:12 PM ^
My take is Wisconsin -14.5 would be a fairly good line. I don't think they would roll like they did against Nebraska.

October 2nd, 2011 at 9:07 PM ^
That's reasonable. I'm not running a casino so 2.5 points isn't that big of a deal to me. I think we lose, but by way less than Nebraska did. Two TD's and a field goal, or two TD's sounds about right.

Here's a fun comment trick that I think applies a lot here: if you shift-enter, you only go down 1 space, as opposed to the default double space.
