Asanine fluff on Pryor

Submitted by Todd Plate's n… on
I don't hate pryor. I don't doubt his talent and will not deny he played very well for a true freshman. basically prefacing the post with, "i don't spend my days and nights obsessing over tp". In the doldrums that is mid-summer for us rabid college football fans, i stumbled across a link from yahoo/rivals about pryor "putting in the time". i got a few lines in and almost threw up: "Pryor could have taken the easy road. Except Pryor has never been about doing what is easiest, which is why he opted to sign with Ohio State last spring despite the fact the Buckeyes already had quarterback Todd Boeckman in place." So let me get this straight, it would have been easy to go to Michigan and shoulder a huge portion of the load on offense as a true freshman during what everyone knew would be a tough year of growing pains on both sides of the ball. The hard thing was going to OSU where he could earn the starting spot, but would not be forced into the starting spot, with a defense full of nfl talent and a stud RB behind him and a head coach whose system has been firmly in place for nearly a decade. Yep, Terrelle Pryor is our generation's Carl Joseph. He has overcome so much in his time at OSU.

Well, you could argue that the expectations would be higher at OSU than at Michigan considering the surrounding talent and the team's experience with the offensive scheme; at Michigan, he might have been forgiven for a poor freshman season due to all the change that was taking place at the time. But I would agree that to say Pryor has "overcome" anything is stupid.

At some point I hope he's going to have to overcome the stigma of bagging groceries in some PA mini-mart with a monster buckeye tattoo on his forearm.

Doubt his talent as a QB. I think he is an excellent athlete but have never been sold on his ability to play QB at this level or the next. Put him at WR and he would be one of the top in the country, at QB he is average at best. In RR's system he may have been able to dispell some of the notions like mine, but I don't see it happening at OSU. Given a chance to run a spread offense I think he would have been really good but he will have to do a lot to overcome the notion (in my mind) that he isn't better suited to play WR or QB in a different system.

why I would get a thumbs down for my previous post....... How did that happen exactly? I know...I am going to call an mgoblog news conference and ask everyone "who done it" until the culprit reveals himself al la the Tim Tebow blasphemy case. Seriously though, I don't see how that was deserved for stating an opinion.

I didn't give you a thumbs down because I'm not like that, but I can see why someone would. Basically, if you go by the numbers Pryor was very good last year for a freshman quarterback. So if you're going to dispute his ability to play quarterback, I'd expect a concrete reason why I should agree with you. You could explain why his statistics are misleading and shouldn't be given much weight or maybe point out a flaw in his mechanics or decision making- something. In short, yeah you gave your opinion, but you didn't explain how you arrived at it and why we should agree with you.

I agree with you. I also gave you a +1. Regarding Pryor, I think he is an all world athelete, but an average QB with potential to develop into a good one. I just don't see him playing QB in the NFL.

Everyone writes fluff, there's no sense getting upset about it. There are dozens of fluff pieces written about Michigan players every year. It makes us feel happy.

I think the article makes a great point. Imagine the challenge of learning to driving a brand new, 60,000 dollar stick shift when you aren't even intelligent enough to form a sentence...

Most of you guys hate pryor because he picked OSU over UM. I myself dont like the guy for the same reason but give the guy a break, he is good and will continue to lead Ohio for the next three years
